System-wide FlickType keyboard now available on the App Store!
Dear FlickType friends,
We could not be any more excited today to share with you our biggest news yet: The brand new, system-wide FlickType keyboard is now available on the App Store! Link: https://bit.ly/FlickType. Packed with emoji, cursor control, better dictionary and so much more! A huge thank you to all our amazing testers, we couldn't have done it without you ☺️ The new container app is also much easier to navigate, has improved instructions and is totally free to use. For the system-wide custom keyboard, we are offering a free 7-day trial, and after that it's just 99 cents per month. Continuing to build out this technology is no small task, and this will support our ongoing development costs so that we can continue to provide you with the very best VoiceOver typing experience available. All beta testers can continue to use the custom keyboard free of charge, but we hope that you will also support us by simply downloading FlickType from the App Store and choosing the "Upgrade" option. You will still receive new beta builds as usual, and your subscription will continue unless cancelled from your App Store settings. Once again, a big thank you to everyone for your help and support over the last few months, and we can't wait to show you what else we've planned for the future of VoiceOver typing. Please help us spread the word! Warmly, Kosta and Ashley - Get the app: https://bit.ly/FlickType - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/FlickType - Visit our website: https://www.flicktype.com

to everyone. I am wondering if you would be wiling to elaborate on why you chose a subscription model rather than a flat rate fee for the system wide keyboard for use in the blog?

Hi Brandon,
Thanks for writing the post, please share once it's up! As we have a developing product that we will be making considerable updates and improvements to, coupled with a small market, an ongoing subscription model is the best way to ensure that the project is sustainable and will be around for a long time. This, as well as the fact that we want to ensure everyone is paying for what they’re using and not paying a one time purchase for a product that they don't use a year or two down the road, we feel that a subscription is best for everyone. That being said, things are not set in stone as we are going to be fluid and adaptable to the circumstances. Please let us know if you have any other questions, Ashley

I have posted the above text to the ViPhone list. It is a great explanation of why a subscription is needed. Chuck😎

I have downloaded the app and subscribed, but will also continue to be part of the test team and I look forward to where FlickType goes from here! I don't think there is a major rush for this at all, but I do miss the flick left and hold gesture to delete quickly that the classic app has, but obviously this isn't a massive issue. Congratulations again! Macky

I'm' curious, Have you considered a one-time, lifetime, buy-in option as well? I know that you will have worked really hard to figure out your pricing structure. But I know that I would prefer to pay $20 for a lifetime of FlickType than to pay the $1 per month. This is not because I think the product not worth the cost, but simply because I'd prefer not to have a regular $1 charge on a monthly basis.
Or, even if the cost was annual, would you consider $10 per year for folks who would prefer not to have the repeated monthly transaction? I know that I will use my business expense account to pay for Flicktype, and the monthly transaction will require me to submit a receipt each month. I'd much prefer a less regular--less often--transaction. Any consideration there? Again, I'm grateful for what you are doing. You've put together a solid product, and its totally worth the money. Blessings, Travis

Hello,

I'm writing to provjde feedback about the things that bother me, so they can be addressed. 1. The fact that the app is full-screen makes it impossible to enter information when composing email, and text-messages. 2. The visual affects setting is never remembered 3. Elinmate the subscription and charge a flat fee for the keyboard. ard. ad more color options for the background. Add dictation support get rid of the swipe gestures such as flick down and hold. I have a hard time using these gestures. Thanks, Jessica

Congratulations on getting the first build of the system wide keyboard extension live in the App Store. It’s been fun to help with the progress of making the keyboard what it is today, and I can’t wait to help with whatever else you two ask us (The beta and Alpha testers) to assist with next. Great job! Ed Worrell

Good luck with the new system white keyboard. Pleased to report that the flick and hold gestures are now much more reliable. I also like the spelling feature and the pause Time you have chosen.

deleting numbers and symbols, because even if you have typed words past them, those still count as one word each. so, '50%' is 3 words.

Hello,
Happy to see the new release on the app store. A friend is trying it on an iPhone six and while using the explore gesture to locate the dismiss button or the next keyboard button, ends up in the control center more often than not. Is this a known issue regarding that model? Do you have any suggestions which I may forward? I don't seem to have this issue on the eight plus. Thank you.
|
|
Hi Dave,
Thanks for reaching out on behalf of your friend. The control center is accessed by pulling up from the bottom of the screen, typically this also requires that you touch down at the very bottom of the screen before dragging up. My suggestion is that your friend starts exploring from higher on the screen and work their way down towards the bottom rather than starting low initially and dragging upwards. Does this make sense? If they're still having trouble please let us know what iOS version they are on, as well as which FlickType version. Thanks, again! Ashley

I think the reason this is happening is because with voiceover on, the

normal way to access the control center, as Ashley properly explained, has been altered. For voiceover users, what you do is explore to the top and touch one of the items in the status bar, then lift and swipe up with three fingers. For non-voiceover users, the gesture is to simpy swipe up with one finger from the bottom. My theory is that FlickType is designating a region for VoiceOver not to interfere with, such as how playing the instruments in Garage band is possible even with voiceover on.
