iOS 15 and flick type

I upgraded and am using flick type to compose this message on the system wide keyboard. It seems to be working exactly as it did before on my device. I haven't yet tried the container app or the classic version but I see no reason why they wouldn't work. Of course if it is not installed on your device before you upgrade you probably won’t have it after you upgrade. Anyone should expect that. Just thought you would all like to know. Have a great day.

When I first got the 15 beta it worked if the first word was the correct word you wanted to type. But if you flicked down for additional choices, it would only say the first letter of the possible corrections. So if you're trying to type the word dog and the first option was god, when you flicked down it would say D which would be the choice for dog or whatever else it thinks you were trying to type.

If you do a search for the app on the App Store, does it appear in iOS 15. Seeing it here using iOS 14

I uninstalled it when I realized it didn't work on 15. But I wanted to try it again, so I went to the app store and clicked on purchases to show me everything I've ever downloaded from the app store and it was there. But it's still broken. If you swipe to the left it says space instead of the word you're deleting. And it only says the first letter of possible correction words when you flick down.

Hi, I also noticed that while using the systemwide keyboard, the words typed are not always spoken completely. Also, as mentioned in another reply, flicking up and down through Suggestions only reads the first or last letter of the words selected Flicking left to delete words only says space if anything at all. The behavior seems to be the same in the container app. The classic version however still behaves as it always has. Everything is spoken as I would expect. I’ll probably start using that one more consistently since the behavior appears to be more on Target and consistent.

Thank you for that information!
I have always use the FlickType Classic app, because it works perfectly all the time. It’s much more simple, and doesn’t need to interact with different apps.
Even when I was an alpha and beta tester on FlickType, when I was finished testing I would always turn full access off and go back to FlickType Classic app. In my opinion is the best incarnation of Fliktype.

Dave,

I'm having difficulty reconciling your comments below with the following you made in an earlier post:

So, are you saying that with FlickType running under iOS 14.x that you had the same issues with FlickType not speaking the predictive alternatives completely nor in speaking deletions completely? FlickType under iOS 14.8 works great for me with prediction alternatives and with deleting words.

Please help me understand whether upgrading to iOS 15 affected the performance of FlickType on your device because I’m a bit confused based on your previous two posts.

Thanks.

I've always experienced these issues in the mail app so noticed no change on my devices. I sent the second message because I had more opportunity to test and wanted to share my findings for others who had questions especially regarding the classic app. I'm happy that it worked better for you in 14.8. The classic app will be my go to app from now on. If you've had zero issues with the system wide keyboard then I'd say you probably should not upgrade not for fear of losing the app but for fear of losing the very good behavior that you are currently enjoying.

Hi Dave,

Yes, I agree that I’m in no hurry to upgrade to iOS 15 primarily because of concerns of what it might do to FlickType.

Thanks for clarifying that your FlickType issues have been present across multiple iOS versions.

Hello all

I see that there is a new version of FlickType  in the App Store.  V2021.10,

Besides the obvious,, removing the extension to type in all apps, has there been improvements with  VO in the relation to the standard app and iOS 15.

Hello Daniel,
Thank you.
I updated my FlickType keyboard. The container app seems to work almost exactly as before, except when you are finished typing you go to the upper right and hit done. Next a share button will appear and you can send a text to messages, mail, notes, etc.
I went to keyboard settings to see if Fliktype was in the list, and it is not.

Hello Daniel,

One glitch I have noticed, after you type a word and flick right twice to insert a period, FlickType will announce the last word you typed instead of period, but it does insert the punctuation mark.

Hi

I am partially sighted, not completely blind, but too blind to read text on my phone without assistance.  Even in IOS 14 I never got FlickType to work well with VoiceOver on.  I found that switching voice feedback for typing on and then toggling voiceover off each time I wanted to type works very well.

I see there is an update to FlickType to remove it as a third party system wide keyboard, I am not going to update FlickType as it is by far the best way for me to type on the phone as it is now.  I wish Kosta was able to leave the app with it’s short comings in the app store for those of us that can use it without voiceover to continue to use it and a second container app  to be added to the app store for those that find that a more suitable solution.

So unfortunate how things have turned out with Kosta and Apple after he changed my life for the better with a keyboard that I wish Apple had bought from him.

Hello,
The container app that is currently on your iPhone is essentially the same as the update in the app store except it does not have the share button to export text to various apps.
I suggest you try typing in the container app, with voice over turned on. The container app is very stable, works perfectly every time, and does not require full access to type which makes it a much more private keyboard.
Once you are finished typing, you can close the app and it will copy the text to the clipboard, providing you have this turned on in settings, and then can be pasted into any text field.

I have set up a three finger quadruple tap as my paste gesture which makes this process a little easier.

Try it... You may like it.

Hi. Not me. I liked Flicktype as a third party keyboard in my apps. That's why I'm thinking of trying MBraille because it can work with third party apps. You can call me lazy, but if Flicktype isn't gonna work in iOS 15 unless you use the classic app, it's not useful to me.

Hello Peter,

I received this from Kosta last week:

My plan has always been to keep and maintain the container keyboard so
as to provide the full functionality of FlickType Classic with a share
button to export text.

Will the container app remain in the app store?  I wouldn’t want to keep relying on an app if it might soon go away.
