Hi List, With the FlickType keyboard no longer available in the App Store, I’ve being very careful about upgrading my SE 2020 to new versions of IOS. I’m sure the FlickType keyboard will not work with iOS 15 so I have no plans to upgrade to it for a while. I’m not sure whether the FlickType keyboard will work with iOS 14.8 which dropped in the past couple of days. Have any of you using the keyboard upgraded to iOS 14.8 and if so, does the FlickType keyboard work with it? Thanks in advance for your help. Alan Lemly

Hello Alan,
I tried FlickType in the container app and it seems to work fine, but I do not have full access enabled, so I can not tell you if it is working in other fields.
I have always used the old FlickType classic app, which has always worked perfectly in every iOS update and does not require full access to work. It does require a few more taps to export the text, but FlickType Classic has been my go to keyboard. Chuck (mobile) Pleez x cuze enny tie ping or spelin air ores.

I recently replaced my damaged iPhone
11 pro with another working 11 pro but of course Flicktype is no
longer available. However, I have an issue with the classic. I
forgot how to input a cap letter.

Hi Chuck, Thanks for your post and comments about the FlickType container app. Do you know if the container app will be available in iOS 15 or available for download once a new device is purchased requiring re-download of all apps from the App Store? I’m happy to be able to continue to use FlickType however possible and I first began using Fleksy and FlickType by copying and pasting as is done with the container app and is still faster. I suspect the FlickType container app will not be obtainable from the App Store when purchasing a new device. Do you have full access turned off under Settings, FlickType on your device? Is this required in order to use the container app successfully on your device? Thanks for your help. Alan Lemly

Hello Alan, I really do not know what will happen in the future, but as it is right now there is no FlickType keyboard for iPhone in the app store. If compatible, FlickType should be able to install from your app library.
I always turned off full access after I did testing and the container app always worked.
I would love to see FlickType classic beck in the app store... At least it would give the community something. Chuck (mobile) Pleez x cuze enny tie ping or spelin air ores.

To insert a capital letter, manually find the letter you want then flick up. Now type the rest of the word as usual and flick right to insert. I hope this helps, Chuck (mobile) Pleez x cuze enny tie ping or spelin air ores.

Well, there is no app library on your local computer anymore since Apple changed iTunes a few years back requiring new devices to download apps from the App Store as opposed to restoring them from a local computer. I expect my use of FlickType whether as a keyboard or with the container app will end when I upgrade to a new iPhone. Alan Lemly

Hello Ellen, Yep library is on your phone. If you do a three finger swipe left to the last page, there is your app library. Hi Chuck,
I'm not sure we're pulling on the same thread. I've been talking about the source of apps when getting a new iPhone and I thought you were talking about apps in the app library of your current device. Apps on a new iPhone must come from the App
Store so only those still available there will download to a new device. This is true whether you do a device to device transfer of settings and content or whether you restore a backup from the iCloud or from a local computer. Therefore, FlickType will not
download to a new device. If you're talking about something else, please enlighten me.

Yep library is on your phone. If you do a three finger swipe left to the last page, there is your app library. It should have all the apps that you have loaded onto the phone, regardless of whether they are on the screen or not. Take
a look, that’s where I found some very old apps I forgot about.

Hi Chuck,
Thanks for your post and comments about the FlickType container app. Do you know if the container app will be available in iOS 15 or available for download once a new device is purchased requiring re-download of all apps from the App
Store? I’m happy to be able to continue to use FlickType however possible and I first began using Fleksy and FlickType by copying and pasting as is done with the container app and is still faster. I suspect the FlickType container app will not be obtainable
from the App Store when purchasing a new device.
Do you have full access turned off under Settings, FlickType on your device? Is this required in order to use the container app successfully on your device?
Thanks for your help.
Alan Lemly
I tried FlickType in the container app and it seems to work fine, but I do not have full access enabled, so I can not tell you if it is working in other fields.
I have always used the old FlickType classic app, which has always worked perfectly in every iOS update and does not require full access to work. It does require a few more taps to export the text, but FlickType Classic has been my go
to keyboard.

Hello Alan, I just saw this on the Verge. This sounds like the apps are stored in the cloud or on the Mac, depending on where you backup... Both in my case. I am hoping this is true... If not, maybe some one will grab the open source of Fleksy and built a new app. I am a glass half full kind of guy.

Hi Chuck,
I'm not sure we're pulling on the same thread.

So those apps are not in the iCloud, they only download from the App Store?

Hi Alan and All,
I’m using a 6S, with 14.8. I have been able to use FlickType in FB to post on a time line and in the Message app to send a text message. I believe you are correct Alan that the apps are stored in the cloud and not in iTunes. At one point, I thought you could setup a new iPhone from the old one, but I’m not 100% sure about that.

Hi Eileen,
I just updated my SE 2020 to iOS 14.8 and am happy to report that my flicktype keyboard is still working just fine. I don't believe that will be the case with iOS 15 so I will be in no hurry to upgrade to it.
A few years back, you could use iTunes to download apps to your local computer and carry them forward to a new device. However, Apple changed that approach as they moved more to cloud based orientation and now all apps transferred to a new device must
come from the App Store. The names of your installed apps do transfer to the new device as do their installed screen locations but the app itself must download from the App Store and if it's no longer there, you're out of luck. I experienced this with a money
reader app that I had on an old device that was no longer in the App Store when I upgraded to my iPhone SE 2020 so that app is no longer on my device.

Hello Alan, Out of curiosity I erased an old iPhone 6S and tried to download FlickType from the clout, and also from my old Mac. Unfortunately, you are right, it could not download any app that is no longer in the app store. ☹️ It looks like our days of FlickType typing are numbered... Hi Chuck, Thanks for confirming my understanding of the inability to port apps to another device when they are no longer available in the App Store. I suspect we won’t have any luck convincing Kosta to put anything in the App Store since I believe he is suing Apple over their latest series 7 watch keyboard. But I tend to be a glass half empty sort of guy regarding such things. At any rate, I’m beginning to try other on screen keyboard typing methods since I realize that my days with FlickType are numbered. I downloaded Microsoft SwiftKey today and will give it a try. It was hard in the past when trying slide to type and other keyboard features since they all paled in comparison to FlickType but my perspective has now changed. Alan

Hi all
There are always the direct touch typing and slide to type. Combined these together, and typing on the iPhone isn't bad. Of coarse the experience is nothing compared to FlickType but anything is better than nothing. Plus the original Fleksy is still around in the App Store.
