Comments on Voice Changes in Latest Update

Hello. I don't know if I'm in the minority with this but I would prefer that VoiceOver's voice not change when interacting with the Flicktype keyboard. One of the things I've always liked about the keyboard in Flicktype is that it tries to mirror the experience
when interacting with the standard iOS keyboard. With the latest update, the pitch of the voice is noticeably higher when typing or when changing from letters to numbers. When typing, this provides the false impression that I'm typing in upper case. I'd personally
like to see this change reverted back to the way it was. Alternatively, could there be an option in settings to enable or disable the voice change options? This would satisfy both camps of users.
Many thanks. Don't get me wrong; I still love this app. I just would prefer the voice to remain the same when I interact with its keyboard. --

Hi David. Why don't you toggle use pitch change off in settings in Voiceover? I have this off and I'm not experiencing the voice changes in FlickType. I'd rather Voiceover beep than raise pitch for capital letters.

Shawn, I admit that adjusting this setting would likely solve the problem. However, I don't wish to do this as I have my iPhone set to raise the pitch when I encounter or type a capitalized letter. With screen readers, a sudden voice change usually means there
is a unique change to the letter or text which is being announced. As an example, with most screen readers, at least on Windows, raising the pitch of a character indicates that the character is capitalized. With JAWS, you could adjust the pitch to be lower
than your default voice pitch if, let's say, the text is underlined or if the text is being read with the JAWS cursor and not the PC cursor. In other words, changes in the synthesizer's voice usually means that there's something different or unique about that
text which the user is being alerted to. With this new change in Flicktype, I am unaware as to what is different or unique about what I am typing or the messages indicating that I'm switching into numbers mode. It just doesn't make sense to me and it no longer
mirrors or mimics the experience of using the standard iOS keyboard while manually entering text, which is something I always appreciated about Flicktype. As I mentioned in a previous message, I feel this change should either be reverted or the user should

Yeah I know how screenreaders change pitch when it encounters a capital letter. I just gave you an alternative that you can use to avoid this. Every time I encounter a capital letter with Voiceover, whether it be on my phone or my Mac, I have it set to play a sound when this happens. I like hearing a sound when I encounter capital letters, especially if the voice I'm using can't make pitch change. But I guess it's personal preference. If you want the pitch to change, so be it.
