So the announcement has been made that flick type will be removed from the app store. Not by Apple, but the folks who created it because of Apple's horrible treatment. This is a bad day for us blind users who really depend on this keyboard every single day. I'm really sad about this, but I completely understand after what the folks have had to deal with over the years.

It is certainly a sad day for the blind community. This keyboard has enriched my typing experience on iPhone and Apple Watch… Going all the way back to the first encarnation Fleksy.
Yet again, Apple has screwed up royally. Quite the theme this year. All the blogs have focused on the fact that the keyboard was initially designed with the blind community in mind. That’s not looking too good for Apple’s constant spouting of their dedication to Accessibility.

Please also remember that the developer is removing the app from the store, not Apple. The blame doesn’t fall on Apple for this one.
The developer is also in a lawsuit with Apple, this all was the developers decision.

I think it will work as long as it’s compatible with the os. It sounds like We are getting the shaft from the dev here as well. The keyboard on iOS is going away but the inaccessible Watch app is sticking around.
The dev has made more money with the sighted community with the watch app and is still going to support that one it seems.

Yes, the choice of the developer. Who indeed has filed suit against Apple. I’m not disputing that, but no response to developer app rejection is a bad faith effort on Apple’s part.

I expect we'll be able to continue to use FlickType on the devices where it is installed. However, as soon as we get a new device, we will be unable to install FlickType on it since it will no longer be in the App Store.

I had to perform a backup of my 11 pro iPhone to my computer before sending the device to Apple. I am using an iPhone 5 currently and I downloaded a previous IOS version of FlickType from the app store today. I hope my backup of my 11 Pro iPhone to my computer will allow me to restore FlickType to a replacement if Apple is unable to repair the older 11 pro iPhone.

It’s also worth saying that it was their decision to remove the app and this is one side of the story. No one has heard the other side of the story as of yet.
Also Apple and many other companies will only pay what the tech in question is worth. It was an ok keyboard, of which has open source code in it. If Apple wanted to they could grab the source code from the internet and do it themselves. It seems the Apple Watch keyboard will stick around, but not the iPhone keyboard… The dev is screwing over the visually impaired community that helped make this a good app. The Apple Watch keyboard isn’t even accessible anymore.

The abuse Kosta is getting is quite incredible. I, for one, think the FlickType keyboard app as well as the Voice Dream products to be the only real reason why I still have an iPhone
and haven’t moved over to Android. iPhones are extremely expensive in South Africa, about double the US pricing and really aren’t worth the price if you compare them to android apps with similar capabilities.
I think Kosta tried really hard and was blocked at every turn by Apple if you read his twitter feed. It is truly a sad day that the app is being removed from the app store. I will
keep automatic updates switched off on my phone and hope I don’t have to restore my phone any time soon so that I can keep enjoying the convenience of the FlickType app.
The fact that his watch keyboard is not being removed makes perfect sense as the issues he faces with Apple are specific to IOS. I wish him all the best and hope the watch app is a
great success, even if it isn’t accessible. If it is a source of income to him, I am very happy as he truly deserves to be successful.
I find it very sad how entitled some of our blind community members feel to Kosta’s time and effort, he went further than most developers to build one of the best and most accessible
apps to date and for that I am truly grateful.
Let’s hope the issues can be resolved and that one day the best ever keyboard app can be brought back to the app store.
