FlickType question or suggestion

Maurice Peret <mauriceperet@...>

What is going on with FlickType? Ever since I upgraded to iOS 13.11, flicktype does not speak anymore when I input text. I subscribe to this app because I find it extraordinarily easy to input text this way but if it doesn’t speak it’s unusable

Maurice,

The problem with iOS third party keyboards including FlickType and iOS 13 has been well publicized. It is up to you to stay informed and not upgrade to a major iOS release if it's going to cause problems with the apps you use. In fact, Kosta posted a message on this list about the problem with iOS 13 and FlickType.

The well publicized messages to which you refer also said these problems would be corrected with further iterations of iOS 13, e.g. 13.1. Thank you for alerting me to stay informed, not a correct assumption on your part. My question is should I wait or suspend my subscription to FlickType
?

Well, messages that say something will be corrected in the future are guesswork until the upgrade comes out and the correction is confirmed. You should cancel your FlickType subscription if the value you receive from it doesn't meet its cost and only you can answer that.

If you would like for us to make the decision for you, cancel the subscription. There you go. It sounds like you were expecting an overnight fix. Obviously that’s not going to happen.
Have a great day.

Callum Stoneman

Hi,

Personally I feel the responses to this have been quite harsh, it is very easy to miss messages. Do you guys really check the mailing list of every app you use before updating iOS? Anyway, I'll try offer some helpful suggestions here...

If you go into settings, accessibility, VoiceOver, typing feedback and set software keyboards to echo words, it works slightly better. It will read the words you typed once they're inserted, but it will not spell the words or announce words as you delete them, and you cannot use manual typing. If this still isn't good enough for you, then yes, I'd cancel your subscription for now and start it again once this issue has been fixed. In the meantime, if you go into the FlickType app and use the keyboard under the ”type” tab, it works absolutely fine. You will then have to either copy and paste the text where you want it, or export it directly to the app you want to send it to if supported.

Hope this helps.

Thank you most kindly. Your suggestion helped immensely. Even though using FlickType is still problematic, going into accessibility, voiceover, and typing and changing it to words helped. That is the type of helpful suggestion I was hoping for. Thank you
