Do you have full access enabled? Go to general, keyboards, keyboards, FlickType and enable full access.

Oggetto: Problem with Flicktype Beta and main app

Helo,
I don’t understand what has happened but I simply cannot use Flicktype any more.
I thought it was an issue with the Beta version, so I tried the main app, but still cannot use it.
It doesn’t work from the app nor as a 3rd party keyboard. It never allows me to type.
I’m using Ios 11.4.1 on an Iphone SE.

To Kosta and Ashley: still stuck in a loop

Regina Alvarado

Hi, First I would like to get out of my subscription. I have moved around all my keyboards in the list many times. If I have both mBraille and FlickType as third-party keyboards invariably they will follow each other in the list of keyboards and I will be stuck between the two with no way to get to my IOS keyboard or imojee keyboard. This has become a deal breaker for me. If I need to put in an address if between the two I cannot put it in. I have tried everything to fix this problem. I like FlickType a lot. However, I am ready to dump my subscription since I cannot find a workaround my problem. Thank you for a good product, however. Please let me know how to stop my subscription. Thank you.

Hi Regie, No need to dump your subscription. go into settings, general, keyboard then hit the edit button. flick until you hear reorder mBraille then double tap and hold and drag it down until you hear something like moved below FlickType then let go.

All you have to do if something like that happens, aside from reordering it as the other poster suggested, is double tap and hold on the keyboards button. A list will pop up, drag upwards to the keyboard you want, release and it switches.

App subscription

Rachel <r.usher1982@...>

Hello there.

Just wanted to share my thoughts regarding the current debate around the monthly subscription to use the keyboard system wide.

The app is absolutely fantastic. There are a few aspects of it i still need to mess around with, but i feel confident that given time i will, at long last, find myself being able to type on my phone much more quickly than i do using the iPhone’s standard keyboard, meaning tasks like sending longer emails will take far less time. ☺️

As regards paying a monthly subscription to use the keyboard: while i fully accept that given the huge amount of sheer hard work, time and effort that has clearly gone in to making the keyboard operate as efficiently as it does, i’m afraid that for me, the use of a keyboard is not something for which i am prepared to subscribe to. If i was to purchase a keyboard from any store, i would not be expected to pay a monthly subscription fee for me to use that keyboard. So the above, in my view, also applies to the use of FlickType. I would far rather pay a one off fee (just like i would pay a one off price for a shop bought keyboard). In view of this i am using the keyboard in demo mode then sharing the text with the desired app.

Many thanks for reading, and keep up the fantastic work.

Regards.
Rachel.

Hello,
If you are using FlickType in demo mode, you may want to download FlickType Classic on the A app store. It is now, and always will be free of charge and is the original stand alone app.
BTW, some of the gestures are different, so be. Sure to read the instructions.

I am currently using mBraille. FlickType was moved below mBraille. Neither of these things suggested work for me. When I flick down with 2 fingers on mBraille's keyboard I am automatically in FlickType. No double tapping and holding to move to another keyboard. Once in FlickType, touching the new keyboard button takes me back to mBraille. As with mBraille the button for switching cannot be double tapped and held to move up keyboards. You just touch it. So, good suggestions but no go. To send this I will now have to swipe down to get mBraille to move for FlickType and then touch the right-hand button at the bottom that makes the keyboard default. Now I can send this note. However, I cannot start a new email as FlickType covers the address and makes it impossible to see the addresses so you can pick your wanted address. Until I take mBraille or FlickType completely out of the list I have no access to IOS and imojee keyboards. Now going to bed, and I'll work on this tomorrow. Personally I think this would be easy to solve. Just make FlickType have the same kind of next keyboard button as IOS or imojee. I

Re: To Kosta and Ashley: still stuck in a loop

Hi Reggie,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. I wanted to check in and see how things are going for you, were you able to figure this out? You are always welcome to send us a screen recording or a screenshot of when you press the next keyboard button so we can help walk you through your individual situation to @FlickType

As for ending a subscription, you go to settings, iTunes & app store, select your apple id and click view apple id, subscriptions, and you can manage your subscriptions on this page.

Please let us know if we can help!

New version on the App Store!

Dear FlickTypers,

There's a new update available on the App Store, with all the juicy details following below. We are listening to all your feedback and are incorporating it as quickly as we can. We'd like to take this opportunity and remind everyone how valuable your App Store reviews are for small developers like ourselves. Please help your favorite keyboard by taking just a couple of minutes to write a short review with your honest opinion about FlickType. You can use the following link from your iOS device to go there directly: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1359485719?action=write-review

Thank you for your support, we really appreciate it!

What's new:
- Keys will now be shown by default. You can revert back to the previous high-contrast appearance from the settings.
- Added setting to enable blinking cursor. If you have some vision, please try it out and let us know what you think.
- FlickType will now indicate the initial cursor position by announcing the current word.
- When reading back your text, the visual announcement will now be white instead of yellow, and the cursor position will also be displayed.
- When done reading back your text, the current cursor position will be announced.
- Visual tweaks to keyboard area when keys are hidden.
- Visual announcements will now take up more than one line if needed, rather than squeeze the announcement text all in one line by making the font extremely small.
- When reading back the typed text, it will now also be shown as a multiline visual announcement.
- "System" announcements such as switching to numbers or invoking shift will now appear yellow and have a slightly higher pitch.
- Added a workaround setting for the WhatsApp crash, off by default. Enable "Reduced Height" in the settings only if you have been experiencing crashes with WhatsApp, and please let us know if the workaround helped.
- Removed confusing "Inactive" badge on Upgrade tab item.
- Added hint on how to change the preset emoji setting.

Please always restart your device after updating FlickType, and send all your feedback to hello@flicktype.groups.io. Thank you for using FlickType, and make sure to tell your friends if you are enjoying it!

Warmly,
Kosta and Ashley

Comments on Voice Changes in Latest Update

David Goldfield

Hello. I don't know if I'm in the minority with this but I would prefer that VoiceOver's voice not change when interacting with the Flicktype keyboard. One of the things I've always liked about the keyboard in Flicktype is that it tries to mirror the experience when interacting with the standard iOS keyboard. With the latest update, the pitch of the voice is noticeably higher when typing or when changing from letters to numbers. When typing, this provides the false impression that I'm typing in upper case. I'd personally like to see this change reverted back to the way it was. Alternatively, could there be an option in settings to enable or disable the voice change options? This would satisfy both camps of users.

Many thanks. Don't get me wrong; I still love this app. I just would prefer the voice to remain the same when I interact with its keyboard.

Hi Costa and Ashley,

I have the same problem Reggie has. When I'm using mBraille and want to switch to Flicktype that's okay. When I want to back to the English US keyboard, we cannot get away from either the mBraille keyboards or the FlickType keyboards. I had to remove one in order to break the cycle. I just don't know how to get away from this either.

Hi David. Why don't you toggle use pitch change off in settings in Voiceover? I have this off and I'm not experiencing the voice changes in FlickType. I'd rather Voiceover beep than raise pitch for capital letters.

Hi Jen & Reggie,

Just letting both of you know, I didn't have that issue with MBraille was in my list of keyboards. I uninstalled it for a different reason, as I have too many keyboards installed and I needed to remember that to find the next button I needed to go to the upper left hand corner. I know both of you have changed the order of the keyboards, but I guess that hasn't helped. I am running iOS 11.2.6. Not sure if that makes the difference.

Family sharing

Ken Ewing <ken32761@...>

Hello,

I have a question about family sharing. It says in the app description in the app store that up to six people can use this app with family sharing enabled. How does this work with a subscription?

Regards,
Ken Ewing

Re: Family sharing

Hi Ken,

It works precisely the same way as any other app, Apple Music is a good example of this. I've included how to utilize family sharing as stated by Apple: "When you set up purchase sharing, the songs, albums, movies, TV shows, books, and apps purchased by family members are immediately available to everyone else in the group. New content appears in the Purchased tab in iTunes, iBooks, or the App Store for each family member. Just select the family member whose collection you’d like to browse, then download or play the content you choose. Other family members can access your collection in the same way. If you want to keep some purchases private, you can choose to hide individual items"

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Warmly,
Ashley

Re: Comments on Voice Changes in Latest Update

Shawn,

I admit that adjusting this setting would likely solve the problem. However, I don't wish to do this as I have my iPhone set to raise the pitch when I encounter or type a capitalized letter. With screen readers, a sudden voice change usually means there is a unique change to the letter or text which is being announced. As an example, with most screen readers, at least on Windows, raising the pitch of a character indicates that the character is capitalized. With JAWS, you could adjust the pitch to be lower than your default voice pitch if, let's say, the text is underlined or if the text is being read with the JAWS cursor and not the PC cursor. In other words, changes in the synthesizer's voice usually means that there's something different or unique about that text which the user is being alerted to. With this new change in Flicktype, I am unaware as to what is different or unique about what I am typing or the messages indicating that I'm switching into numbers mode. It just doesn't make sense to me and it no longer mirrors or mimics the experience of using the standard iOS keyboard while manually entering text, which is something I always appreciated about Flicktype. As I mentioned in a previous message, I feel this change should either be reverted or the user should have an option to enable it.

bug when switching to landscape mode

Field, S. (Scott)

Hi

I find that when I am using the notes with voiceover on, I start typing in portrait mode and then if I switch to landscape I cannot type.  No matter where I touch it just says “FlickType”.  If I turn voiceover off and on again, staying in landscape, then FlickType works again.

Yeah I know how screenreaders change pitch when it encounters a capital letter. I just gave you an alternative that you can use to avoid this. Every time I encounter a capital letter with Voiceover, whether it be on my phone or my Mac, I have it set to play a sound when this happens. I like hearing a sound when I encounter capital letters, especially if the voice I'm using can't make pitch change. But I guess it's personal preference. If you want the pitch to change, so be it.

Re: bug when switching to landscape mode

Hi Scott,

Thank you for reporting this issue and sorry for the trouble. We have this on our list of future fixes that are based on priority, so far this is our 2nd report so it's pretty obscure for users thus far. For now, we recommend the workaround that you have already discovered.

Thanks, again!

en I am using the notes with voiceover on, I start typing in portrait mode and
then if I switch to landscape I cannot type.  No matter where I touch it just
says “FlickType”.  If I turn voiceover off and on again, staying in
landscape, then FlickType works again.
