Re: New languages
Hi JPR,
With regards to adding new languages, FlickType is a bit unique due the nature of how much inaccuracy it is designed and expected to tolerate. Simply grabbing an existing dictionary is not enough, because there are often valid words that are very uncommon, but have letters similar to words that are much more common. One such example for English is the word "fir", spelled F I R and referring to the tree, which is extremely close to the letters of the word "for", F O R. It would be very frustrating for users if there's even a small chance they get "fir" when they try to type "for", because that small chance would be amplified by just how common the word "for" is. To address this, we need to have a good understanding of how common or uncommon words are in each language we support. For a language like English, we have a pretty good idea ourselves of what words are common and what are not, although even with English there are some slang terms and jargon that are only common for some people and some areas, but not others. Language modules of other keyboards are not publicly available for us to use, and language modules that are available are usually from public sources like Wikipedia or news articles, which do not capture the way people use the language when they type on their device. For example, the term "GOP" that refers to the Republican Party in the US would far surpass nearby words such as "top" and "hop", while "lol" would barely even exist. So what we need is not as readily available, or even as objective as you might expect, even though there are some workarounds, each with varying levels of required effort. All in all, I'd say that adding new languages to FlickType compared to other keyboards is not qualitatively different, but it's quantitatively harder since we need to have more accurate word frequency data than the average keyboard. - Kosta

App pricing
leonard morris
I deleted the threat regarding the cost of this app. However I am wondering if you could have both pricing schemes for example, the monthly as well as an annual fee. I put my yearly services on my credit card and my monthly services on my debit cart. I'm trying to cut down on my emails from Apple and banks. By the way iPad the older flick Type app for quite some time but to be honest I didn’t like it initially. I think it’s because I probably didn’t know what I was doing but I find myself now using it more and more. I dictated the last part of this message but the part about pricing I used Flick Type classic. regardless I’ll probably end up buying that app sometime next week and I’m looking forward to listening to that radio show coming up.

Accessibility Matters Interviews Flicktype Team Thursday
Shawn Krasniuk
Hey all. As you may or may not know, I host a radio show on a local station in Winnipeg called Accessibility Matters. It can be heard Thursdays at 11:00 AM on 95.9 CKUW. This Thursday,, I interview the developers of this app, Ashley and Kosta, and we talk about how they came up with the idea to develop this great app, and a whole lot more. So don't forget to listen to Accessibility Matters Thursday at 11:00 AM central time on 95.9 CKUW. There are several ways to listen. You can go to ckuw.ca and click on the listen live button when it airs, you can ask Google Assistant or Alexa to play CKUW on TuneIn, or if you miss it or can't listen to it at the moment, on that same website listed above, you can find the archives section and download it there. I also host a Whatsapp group where I post the day's episodes every week. You can join it by double tapping this link: https://chat.whatsapp.com/6hVRrEBrvWS5tWdkcpKbpH

I still would like an option where I can simply prepay for the subscription for the year instead of getting a 99 Cents charge every month. I’m not asking for a discount or that there shouldn’t be the option for a monthly subscription, but having th eoption to pay $0.99 a month or $11.88 for an annual subscription would be nice.

Re: Idea for Autocompletion Feature
I think what the person who posted this suggestions invisions I sthat Voiceover would speak the suggestion/prediction and that if it is correct you simply flick right at that point to finish entering the word. I really like the suggestions in the iOS keyboard, but if they are shorter words it is often just as fast to finish typing the word than it is to touch the predictions and see if what you want is one of the 3 predictions given. If this could be made to work automatically so you just tap away and, if you hear a prediction that is the right one you can flick to enter it this could be pretty fantastic. You just have to get used to ignoring suggestions if they are not correct and simply continue to type.

Hello, it seems to me that more time would be spent finding and entering the prediction than just typing with FlickType.
In the future, Kosta plans to implement the ability to use text replacements, so those commonly used phrases will insert with a possible minimum of three taps. Chuck

Hello, Of course each beta build is only good for 90 days, so once the app is fully developed the updates may not come often enough. Also, as a beta tester you should report any problems you are having with the app, and report on new features and updates. Beta testing is not supposed to be a free ride. With a 99 cent a month subscription, I would think you would want to support the app's developers and the app's on going development. I am an alpha tester, so I also get the app with no charge, but I subscribed to FlickType because its the right thing to do. Chuck

App feedback
Lorna Payne <lornapaynemusic@...>
Hello FlickType folks
I have been using the new app since you rolled out the update last week allowing use of it as a system keyboard. Its such a great keyboard I know I speak for so many users when I say how much better it is to use than the standard ios keyboard, and I thought I was pretty good at using the direct touch typing mode but this is better! I just wanted to offer a little feedback, as since the most recent update I have noticed a bug. In certain apps, not all, the dismiss keyboard button disappears and the flick down and hold doesn't seem to work. Trying it a couple of times caused the app I was using to crash, my VoiceOver to become non responsive temporarily. Turns out one time of trying this my control center to appear and my mobile data to be switched off... Somehow! I also find the flick gestures to navigate to be inconsistent. Sometimes it seems to work perfectly and others not at all. Dismissing the keyboard to read what I've written, if I then want to go back to writing its not always easy to tell where in the field I am. I know you have plans to make the keyboard half screen which I imagine will eliminate all of these problems. It will be amazing to see this as a half screen where it will be possible to navigate the text field the old way with VoiceOver and the rotor! Anyway keep up the amazing work! I don't know how the app does it but it's brilliant technology! Best wishes Lorna

It’s true. There is no subscription needed to run the beta version. You just need to have the testFlight app so you can download the beta

Re: New languages
I assume the way Flicktype works each language needs a special dictionary so that the pattern of taps is associated with the word or words it is supposed to represent which would explain why adding a language would be a big job.

Triple Finger Tap and Hold
Jerilyn Domagala <jerilyn206@...>
Overall, a brilliant app. Thanks. I am low vision and use an iPhone 7 with current IOS. I like to have both voice over and zoom enabled on my phone. When using Flick Type Keyboard, I found that the 3 finger tap and hold to start reading back my text does not work with both voice over and zoom enabled. If I turn off zoom, the read back works. Hope you can find a fix so we don't have to fiddle with settings so often. Jerilyn

Idea for Autocompletion Feature
David Goldfield
Hi. I am wondering about the feasibility and potential usefulness of a predictive typing mode within Flicktype. I would envision this as an option as I could see some users finding a feature like this annoying, whereas I'm sure that other users, myself included, would find it of great value. Essentially, this would work similar to the predictive typing feature that we already have with the standard iOS keyboard. Suppose, as an example, I'm writing the phrase "no problem." After typing the word "no" I would type pro and Flicktype would try to guess what I'm attempting to type, based on context. As I type "pro" I imagine Flicktype announcing "problem" If that's the word that I want, I would flick right to accept it. If I want to hear possible suggestions I would flick down to explore the list, as we already do when we've completed a word. Alternatively, I could just ignore the possibility which was offered and continue to type the rest of the word, as normal. I'm wondering if such a feature is worth pursuing? Is it even feasible and would others use it? Are there possible consequences resulting from this that I'm not foreseeing? I admit that such a feature could be chatty and, perhaps, more distracting than some users would like but I can also envision that we could have settings to control certain levels of verbosity such as a setting like "start providing suggestions after X letters have been entered" and perhaps adjustable pauses between the last entered key and the actual announcement of the first suggestion. This last idea would help fast typists not get interrupted. For me, this would make using Flicktype even faster.

Re: posting comments to Facebook
Brandon Cross <bcross3286@...>
It should, did you install it correctly, first by going into settings >> general >> keyboards and reordering flicktype first, then giving full access? After that it should be a matter of using the next keyboard option to switch to it, then use it as normal.

I didn’t think the beta of the new universal keyboard is free... can someone confirm whether an active subscription is or isn’t needed to run the beta version?

Hi all. Just joined this group a day or so ago. A few things here. $0.99 is a reasonable fee but if you really don't want to pay it, join the beta. Secondly, text loss is a well known issue and Ashley and kosta encourage everyone to report it to them. Finally, so that there are no more duplicate messages asking the same thing, multilanguage support is coming but it's going to take a while. Anyway, thanks to Ashley and kosta for a great app and keep up the good work.
