Re: New languages

I assume the way Flicktype works each language needs a special dictionary so that the pattern of taps is associated with the word or words it is supposed to represent which would explain why adding a language would be a big job.

Hi Kosta.
Thank you for coming back to us on this subject. Can you explain a little more about this complexity? Do you actually have to make your own dictionary for each language ? Aren't they any available as modules you could add to the application? I'm asking this because there are quite a few multilanguage keyboards around, from Fleksy to SwiftKey, so I thought maybe some language modules were available nowadays.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Triple Finger Tap and Hold

Jerilyn Domagala <jerilyn206@...>

Overall, a brilliant app.  Thanks.

I am low vision and use an iPhone 7 with current IOS.  I like to have both voice over and zoom enabled on my phone.  When using Flick Type Keyboard, I found that the 3 finger tap and hold to start reading back my text does not work with both voice over and zoom enabled.  If I turn off zoom, the read back works.  Hope you can find a fix so we don't have to fiddle with settings so often.

Idea for Autocompletion Feature

David Goldfield

Hi.

I am wondering about the feasibility and potential usefulness of a predictive typing mode within Flicktype. I would envision this as an option as I could see some users finding a feature like this annoying, whereas I'm sure that other users, myself included, would find it of great value.

Essentially, this would work similar to the predictive typing feature that we already have with the standard iOS keyboard. Suppose, as an example, I'm writing the phrase "no problem." After typing the word "no" I would type pro and Flicktype would try to guess what I'm attempting to type, based on context. As I type "pro" I imagine Flicktype announcing "problem" If that's the word that I want, I would flick right to accept it. If I want to hear possible suggestions I would flick down to explore the list, as we already do when we've completed a word. Alternatively, I could just ignore the possibility which was offered and continue to type the rest of the word, as normal. I'm wondering if such a feature is worth pursuing? Is it even feasible and would others use it? Are there possible consequences resulting from this that I'm not foreseeing? I admit that such a feature could be chatty and, perhaps, more distracting than some users would like but I can also envision that we could have settings to control certain levels of verbosity such as a setting like "start providing suggestions after X letters have been entered" and perhaps adjustable pauses between the last entered key and the actual announcement of the first suggestion. This last idea would help fast typists not get interrupted. For me, this would make using Flicktype even faster.

It should, did you install it correctly, first by going into settings >> general >> keyboards and reordering flicktype first, then giving full access? After that it should be a matter of using the next keyboard option to switch to it, then use it as normal.

I didn’t think the beta of the new universal keyboard is free...  can someone confirm whether an active subscription is or isn’t needed to run the beta version?

Questions about the lists.

Paul Henrichsen

Hi. Is there a way to join the beta and discussion lists and have the messages delivered to my inbox? The web site is difficult to navigate from a phone. I can't find a way on the site to just have the messages delivered to my inbox. I tried to join the discussion list from the site, but I don't think I was successful. I also noticed that their were 85 Topics on the beta list that I didn't even know about😎.. I wondered what they were about.
Thanks.

Hi Taylor,

112 would be the build number, which is part of the version. This is indicating you have not yet updated to the latest App Store version, which you can do so if you search for FlickType on the App Store and then select Update. Your version should then say "2.0.2 #116". If you are still having problems, the latest update also includes one more row below the version, which is labeled "User ID". Below that is a tip on how to copy it to clipboard so you can share it with us.

Hope this helps, and we will change the version row in the settings to say the word "Version" to avoid future confusion.

Improved Multiple Language Support

Ing. Roberto Ayala M. <roaymi@...>

Hello,

I am a low vision user from Mexico.  First of all, congratulations on this new Flicktype app and thank you for your hard work to bring the blind community such a great keyboard.

Being in Mexico, I talk to all my family and most of my friends in Spanish, however, my job requires me to contact several people in the United States and other countries.  My wife and her family are also American.  This means that I constantly need to type both in Spanish and English, and switch between the two languages.

The only thing that is currently making me hold back from purchasing a monthly Flicktype suscription is the inability to switch between languages after bringing up the keyboard.  I suggest a three finger flick up/down gesture for the user to cycle through the previously selected languages inside the Flicktype app.  Would something like this be possible?  I am sure I am not the only user who would benefit from this, as I alone know two individuals who are in a similar situation.

Finally, another very useful feature would be to have VoiceOver use a voice from the language in which the user is typing to speak the typed words.  For example, currently my iPhone’s system language is set to US English.  When I type in Spanish using Flicktype, VoiceOver reads the words using the US English voice.  It would be much better if VoiceOver could be made to use the Mexican Spanish voice instead.

Thank you for your time to read this message and once again thanks for your work.

Best regards,
Roberto Ayala.

Re: Problem with subscription

Hi Taylor, and anyone else experiencing issues with their subscription.

We just released update 2.0.2 on the App Store, which may solve your issue. And if it doesn't, it now includes a User ID at the bottom of the settings which if you share with us could help us identify the cause of your subscription issue. The update will roll out slowly but you can manually search for FlickType on the App Store and tap Update to get it right now.

Thank you for your patience, and we apologize for the inconvenience!

Warmly,
Kosta

Hi Taylor, and thank you for your support as well as your report. We apologize for the inconvenience. We have an updated version which is currently in review by Apple, and should resolve the issue once approved. You can also join our beta where the app is automatically upgraded for all testers free of charge. Just send an empty email to beta+subscribe@flicktype.groups.io to join.

Thank you, and again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Problem with subscription

Taylor Adams <taylor290698@...>

Hi there. Last week when the app was updated I paid for the full access subscription. However when I attempt to use the FlickType keyboard in other apps it just says not subscribed. I have enabled the fool access to data setting, and powered off my device many times, and have even tried to cancel my subscription and removed the app, but there is no difference. Can you help?
Thank you, and thanks so much for bringing back the keyboard after all these years.
