Re: FlickType celebration!

Hi Kosta and Ashley
I would like to congratulate you on finding a way to monetise FlickType. I used it until the subscribtion model was introduced which is an issue for people in third-world countries with week currencies. Then when IOS 13 came out,I tried using the built in IOS keyboard including the slide to type feature that IOS 13 introduced. I simply don't understand how visually impaired people can not use FlickType as their iPhone keyboard. I imagine the VI community willing to pay for apps is too small to be sustainable, hence the great news that the watch app has been such a hit amongst VI and sighted folks alike. Thank you for an absolutely brilliant app, I cannot describe how convenient it is to use your app as apposed to the extreme frustration I endure as a visually impaired person when having to make to with the built in option that come with iPhones. Re: Accessing special characters like $,%,*,@?
Chuck,
Thanks for refreshing my memory. I had forgotten about the two finger single tap to toggle between numbers and symbols. I thought I had found a new gesture with the two finger double tap and hold but I guess FlickType was just picking up the two finger tap from it.

Hello Alan and Gordon. I do a two finger double tap to access the number panel. A two finger single tap will bring up additional symbol panel.
When I want to capitalize a letter I simply do a two finger single tap.
Basically, a two finger single tap is like a toggle of the shift key. A two finger double tap is like a toggle of the number / symbol key.

Re: Accessing special characters like $,%,*,@?
Gordon,
I use FlickType in full screen mode and I access the symbols differently than how you described. I do the two finger double tap to switch between letters and numbers but if I want to access symbols, I do a two finger double tap and hold when on the numbers keyboard. A regular two finger double tap switches back to the letters keyboard or back and forth between letters and numbers. When I'm on the lower case letters keyboard, a two finger double tap and hold places me in the upper case letters keyboard.
I hope that makes sense and is helpful.

You're going to want to double tap with two fingers to change to symbols. then explore the screen without lifting your finger until you have what you re wanting to type. Then double tap with two fingers to return to letters. On 1/23/2020 7:01 PM, Kat Hayes wrote:

Hello, Unfortunately there are no additional characters available on FlickType for Apple Watch, only the letters you currently use. I find spelling out numbers works best for me... For example one hundred ten dollars. This works especially well when read by another voice over user.😎 Chuck (mobile) Pleez x cuze enny tie ping or spelin air ores.

I don't currently have a watch, so I'm not familiar with how that
works. But Chuck should see this soon and can answer your
questions for you.

Hello, I agree that it takes a bit of practice. Now I get it every time. It’s almost center top on my Series 5. Best, JP

Hello Jessica, I have found that finding the upper left corner of my watch, placing my finger here until I hear send, and then double tapping works well for me. With a little practice, I am sure this will become second nature to you. Good loch, Chuck (mobile) Pleez x cuze enny tie ping or spelin air ores.

Apple watch app feedback
Jessica D
Hi,
I have some feedbacm regarding the Apple watch flicktype app. I'm using an Apple watch series 4. When I'm typing, and am ready to send it as a text-message, attempting to double-tap the send button results in unwanted characters. As a result, may I suggest that you move the send button back to the force touch menu? Thanks, Jessica

Re: Combining touch and flick typing
Benny Barber
Randy, let me make sure I understand what you are doing. It appears that you are manually typing a word that is not in your dictionary. When you manually type a word, after the last letter that you type, you should flick right and the word will be entered with a space after it. If you flick right a second time, punctuation will be entered after the word rather than a space. Hope that helps.

Combining touch and flick typing
Randy Borst <Reborst1@...>
I use touch typing when I need to use a word but contained in the FlickType dictionary. But then When I flick right to put in In a space and ready the way for my next word to flick,. I get a punctuation mark. How can I correct that?

I have solved my problem with being unable to bring up the FlickType keyboard. My error was that I wasn't holding down the second tap long enough to bring up the context menu. I have it now as went default keyboard...

BTW do to Apple limitations text replacements do not work in the FlickType container app, they only work while using flicktype in other text fields.

Re: Suggestion & Question
Chuck Dean
Hello, After you enter your shortcut for the text replacement, flick right. If this isn't correct, flick down until the suggestion is correct. I find that when I manually type my two letter shortcuts, the proper text replacement is one or two suggestions down. If you type the two letter shortcut using your regular typing style often the text replacement will be first. Also, if you manually type the two letter shortcut it will be entered into the dictionary and then will always be the first suggestion.☹️ The two and three finger navigation have been problematic in iOS 13, and the developer is aware of this problem. It may be fixed in the next update. The change to the watch app for suggestion selection was to improve consistency with the flicktype app for the visually impaired and for flicktype notes app which is aimed at the sighted community to generate funds to keep flicktype alive! I agree, I have been flicking down for other suggestions, but I am sure I will eventually use the digital crown. It's just a new learning curve... But worth it in the long run. Have a great day!👍 Chuck (mobile) Pleez x cuze enny tie ping or spelin air ores.

Suggestion & Question
Shaun P.
Hi, I'm new here so sorry if I'm posting in wrong place. :)
Firstly, I'm unable to get the text replacement function to work? I've set it to on in the settings and the text replacements I've already got defined work fine in the standard iOS keyboard, but not in FlickType. Is there a trick to it? I'm tapping out the replacement shortcut a character at a time and then swiping to the right with one finger but nothing is replaced. Thanks, Now for a suggestion. I've noticed the 3 finger swipe to move forward or back a line at a time is inconsistant or just not working at all in some places. How about ditching the gesture altogether and simply have a 2 finger swipe and hold to jump through each word at a high speed? I think that when FlickType is in standard size mode there is more of a chance of pushing focus outside of the keyboard with 3 finger gestures. Just my 2 cents. And while I'm at it... For FlickType on the Apple Watch, the swipe down to read what you've typed really throws me out. After using the iOS version for so long, swiping down for word alternatives is now muscle memory. Keeping as many gestures consistant between platforms would be cool. Thanks and keep up the good work!
