Re: Deletion clicks and latency

Benny Barber

Ashley,

This started after some time. The app seemed to work as it should at first,
but this occurred maybe a day later. When I delete (swipe left), I get a
key tap sound. I also noticed I am getting a double key tap sound when I
two finger swipe right/left to change to numbers/symbols/letters. The same
goes for two finger swipe up for the menu. I get key tap sounds when I
swipe through word options as well. The app seems to be sluggish (all
swipes and tapsalso). Yes, I did turn off my device and restart it and the
symptoms are still there. When I first try to open build 32, I got the
crash. I uninstalled and re-installed and it worked fine at first and these
issues started later. Thanks.

Benny

Thanks for your message, Benny. Are you saying this issue occurred right
after updating to build 32 or it took some time for this issue to occur?
Have you restarted your device after you noticed the issue?

Appreciate any details you can provide!

Regarding the slight slow down that has been mentioned, I have noticed a solution that might or might not be exclusive to my own set up. What I've noticed is I struggle to type and the general focus of VoiceOver on my phone jumps around a bit when I have my charger plugged in. As soon as I take my charger out, everything returns to normal. Can anyone else who is finding build 32 confirm this behaviour? A bizarre one I know, but all I can think of is maybe it has something to do with iCloud backups that are performed when connected to power? Beyond this unusual issue

Beyond this unusual issue however, I like the ability to customize the typing clicks and other such sounds. Regarding the raise to listen feature, I normally just put my hand over the top of my phone to listen to what I've typed. Regarding possible uses of the rotor, I wonder if it would be possible to add an insert feature? There have been times when I've missed something out and had to delete the sentence I'm typing to go back and add it in. But overall, I'm very happy to say it you've done a superb job so far and it already feels as good as if not better than the original. Keep up the good work!

Adding custom words

Robin Christopherson

Dear list

I’m having fun using Flicktype but have one question. I was trying to type the name Nick (with a capital N) so I first typed it out manually on the keyboard and then added it to the custom dictionary by flicking up after flicking right, but then next time I type the word ‘nick’ in the normal way (i.e. not manually but using the shape of the word) and then flick up and down through the alternatives then Nick with a capital N is not there in the list. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong guys?

Thanks, Robin

Re: Test message to Flicktype subgroups and former group address

Hi all, just wanted to confirm what Alan said.

The hello group will be inactive until we are live on the App Store. From there on, users that are neither part of the beta or the alpha will be posting there.

The alpha and beta groups are groups dedicated to alpha and beta builds respectively.

Also note that the hello group is what groups.io calls the parent group, and alpha and beta are subgroups. Meaning all members of alpha and beta are automatically members of the hello group as well.

Hope this helps, and please bear with us while we are still figuring things out :)

Warmly,
Kosta

Re: Deletion clicks and latency

Thank you, Benny and Alan! Appreciate you two sharing these details as this can help us resolve the issue, we'll look into it this.

If anyone else has noticed this behavior or has anything else to add please do share.

Warmly,
Ashley

Thought about instructions

When I was first learning to use this app I wish I had known that voiceover gestures do not work when typing. But of course they do in the menuB

Emoji support. Is there a way emoji support could be added. I tried to add a text replacement for a word to an emoji. Then add that word to flick types keyboard. This does not work neither does copying the text over as the replacement only works as you type. Is this something that that would just work in the system wide version?

Re: Emoji

Hi Simon, great questions. We are planning to support both emoji as well as text replacement shortcuts in the new system-wide version of the keyboard. If you want to be among the first to try it out, please join our beta here: beta+subscribe@flicktype.groups.io

Wow so that's exciting! So would we who are already Betatesters, be eligible for trying out the keyboard extention? I imagine you'd be sending instructions if we need to download the beta app etc?

I had to transition to a new host because TMDHosting is not a good host. DreamHost seems to be much better so far. Just sayin'. If anyone has been experiencing slowness or complete downness on theblindkind.com, I'm so, so very sorry. I'm hopeful this won't continue. Once all the DNS propagates, things should be much better. I can already see from where it propagated near me that it's much faster and more stable.

Some feedback on the released version

Christo de Klerk <cjdk@...>

Hello

FlickType is working really well on my iPhone 5C. It is a pleasure to use it and I am looking forward to its new developments.

There is just one issue I notice which I don't know if it might already be a known issue. When I use the app in landscape mode (which I find rather nice), I notice that the lift to speak feature does not work.

Keep up the good work.

Kind regards

Christo de Klerk

Re: Some feedback on the released version

Hi Christo, and thank you for the kind words.

The earpiece proximity sensor seems to automatically be disabled by iOS when holding the device in landscape orientation. I don't think there's anything we can do about that, unfortunately, but we might add a new gesture to perform the read back function soon.

Hello, as a fellow landscape flicker, if I want to hear what I typed, I just turn my iPhone into portrait mode and put my hand over the ear piece. Of course, I do not have the keyboard locked in landscape mode.
