Latest build FlickType Keyboard, Version 0.1 (29) won't run on an iPhone 5
Daniel McGee
Can anyone confirm. When using an iPhone 5 the latest build from test flight FlickType is unable to run when the app loads?
I have already tried quitting from the app switcher and even restarting the 5. On both attempt, didn't work.

New release #30: An entirely new sound treatment has arrived, now more refined
App changes follow below. Please report all your feedback by replying to this topic. Thank you for testing FlickType!
In this release (30): - Lowered the pitch of the new deletion sound. - Restored the original tap sound, but a bit louder than before. New tap sound is used in landscape, tell us what you think! - Use lower pitch when spelling words, rather than higher. Thanks Daniel! - Don't use higher pitch to announce tokens with numbers or symbols. - Fixed double announcement of typed text when invoking the menu. - Added back missing voice feedback when VoiceOver is disabled. Note: having VoiceOver disabled is generally unsupported. For best results, please ensure VoiceOver is enabled when using FlickType. You can set your accessibility shortcut to include toggling VoiceOver when you triple-click the device button. Reading of punctuation is known to be buggy when VoiceOver is disabled. In the previous release (29): - Complete revamp of of all sound effects: taps, deletions, errors, and more. Tell us what you think! - Deletion announcements will now always use a lower pitch, and will not use the word "Deleted". You can turn that back on from the settings. - Updated deletion sound effect, hopefully this is less intrusive. Thanks Serina! You can now also turn it off from the settings. - Words with numbers and symbols will now be announced correctly and in detail, even if they contain no letters. - Spelling of words now uses a higher pitch. - Apostrophes in contractions like "it's" will be announced. Thanks Alan! - Capital letter announcements will use the shorthand "cap" prefix instead of the full word "capital". - Fixed pronunciation of colon symbol. Thanks Yana! - Fixed wrong iPhone X keyboard positioning when in landscape mode. - Added a few more words to the dictionary. Please report all your feedback by replying to this topic. Thank you for testing FlickType! Kosta & Ashley PS: Don't forget to invite your friends to beta@flicktype.com! The more testers we have, the faster we can improve the app.

Re: New release #30: An entirely new sound treatment has arrived, now more refined
You can always downgrade to one of the last few releases by choosing the "Previous builds" at the bottom of the Testflight page for FlickType.
FYI we will add a setting in the future to select your favorite tap sound and volume. Thank you for the feedback! - Kosta

Thanks costa,
Downgraded to previous build, but the keyboard clicks were still the same. It would be great if a setting could be added to make clicks loud or soft. I don't believe such a clear text option exists. It really isn't needed since you can single finger swipe left as you would to delete the last word typed and simply leave your finger on the screen and FlickType will rapidly delete everything you've entered. Alan Lemly

I believe the flicking left and holding in order to rapidly delete typed input is still mentioned in the instructions. But it is possible that I'm remembering it from the Fleksy days of old. It certainly still works and is a quick way to get rid of everything unless you've typed something extremely long. I do love FlickType but if I'm typing something that long, I'm going to do it with my computer keyboard. Happy FlickTyping. Alan

Explore the alternative way to enter numbers and symbols
Hi List,
As the FlickType Wiki says: There are two ways to input numbers and symbols: 1) 2-finger flick left or right will give you access to the full numbers and symbols keyboards. 2) Tap and hold the keys. There is now a new line at the top of the keyboard full of symbol and number groups. Drag your finger over one and release to select it. Navigate with flick down and up to other symbols and numbers in the same group. Explore. I strongly encourage users to explore the alternative way to enter numbers and symbols. Single finger press and hold on the FlickType keyboard and slide up until you hear @, period, number sign and a few others on a new line that pops up above the qwerty keyboard. If you release on the @ symbol in this line, FlickType will insert it into your output section and you can single finger flick down to cycle through other choices within that group. If you've set up your email address within the app, one of the choices that's available in the @ sign group list is your email address. This is a very quick way to generate input of your email address which many sites and apps seem to require. By the same token, in the number sign group, one of the available options is your phone number. This can be a faster way to input some symbols and I highly recommend that everyone explore the options available in this alternative input method and become familiar with what's available under each group via flicking down. Happy FlickTyping. Alan Lemly

Looking for alpha testers
Hi all,
We recently crossed 500 beta testers, and it won't be long before we hit a thousand or more. This poses some significant challenges when it comes to iterating fast on the app, while ensuring that no critical bugs make it to such a large group of users. Even though the app is still very much in beta, we want our testers to be using it as a daily tool that they can rely on, and we don't want to become more risk-averse in how we develop the app. To this end, we are introducing a new "alpha" program. The idea is to have a smaller group of users who are willing to receive more frequent, and sometimes less polished versions of the app, and based on their feedback, builds that are deemed acceptable will then be pushed to the wider beta group which could eventually, and hopefully, number thousands of people. If you are interested, the only thing you need to do is just let us know and we will add your email to the internal Alpha group. Everything else will be the same, including how you get builds from TestFlight. There is nothing else that you need to do on your end. We might create a special sub-group in the mailing list to gather all feedback from the alpha group there, rather than have everyone be notified about messages relating to builds that they can't yet get. We do want the alpha discussion to be done in the open though, so everyone can read about it and anticipate what's coming. More details on how to submit alpha feedback will be coming soon. Thank you for your incredible help and support so far, you guys have been awesome! - Kosta

Punctuation & Symbols Read Back
Benny Barber <rebelben@...>
I’m not too thrilled with the read back of all punctuation and symbols. It seems too verbose if you have a lot of them. I would think the spell words setting would suffice for those that want to hear all punctuation and symbolsread back. I noticed that when you bring up the menu the read back that occurs then does not read all punctuation and symbols. Could we have a toggle to turn on and off all the punctuation and symbols read back?
Also, I noticed that when you have a number that might have a decimal within it and you swipe right, the read back is only the numbers after the decimal. It seems it would be more accurate for the read back to be all the numbers and symbols in the string just type. For example: $25.55 Right now the read back is “55”. It would seem to be more appropriate for the read back to be “twenty five dollars and fifty five cents”.
Just my thoughts. I’ll keep checking it out. Thanks.
