Re: After app update, app refuses to load
Harry Bell
I had to try deleting the FlickType app then installing so I have tge latest version. Yes, I am on internet and yes, I have restarted my iPad several times. I pay a monthly subscription but when I now tried to use tge FlickType keyboard to compose this reply, all I got was a message saying my subscription is not active. But if I go to the Upgrade tab in the container app, all. Get is that blank screen with popover saying no secure connection could be made to the server. So, for tge moment, FlickType is completely unusable on this 2018 iPad running GM of iOS 12 beta. Any suggestions welcome!

Thank you Ashwin. Please try updating to the new 3.0 version that was just released earlier today and let us know if the problem persists.

Version 3.0 with half screen mode is out!
Please read the following release notes and tell us what you think of this update at hello@flicktype.groups.io. All feedback is welcome, smile!
What's new: - Half screen mode now works with VoiceOver. Also introducing an additional "Minimal" keyboard height option. - During a long press, the height of the top QWERTY row will now be the same as the bottom two rows. Exploring the area above the keyboard will read back your text. Tell us what you think! - Some low-vision users asked us for a splash of color. The default black background can now be a simple vertical gradient with a color of your choice. - If you are accidentally invoking the shift function when typing fast with multiple fingers, you can now disable it using the new "Multi-finger tap gestures" setting. Known issues: - If you are getting any incorrect announcements, please try setting the iOS VoiceOver "Typing Feedback" for software keyboards to "Characters", or to "Nothing". - There is a known issue with the "Minimal" option not working correctly inside the container app on the iPhone X. - Manually typing a word after a new line might insert a space after the first character. - The keyboard might not work properly on iPad when iOS Zoom is enabled. Please tell us what works for you and what doesn't, so we can make FlickType better for you! Happy typing! ☺️

Hi Harry,
What build of FlickType are you running? Please make sure you have internet connectivity when launching the container app, and try restarting your device to see if that helps. - Kosta

After app update, app refuses to load
Harry Bell
On 2018 iPad running iOS 12, I’ve just installed tge FlickType update, restarted iPad and tge app now launches a blank page and a message pop over saying no secure connection can be made to server. It offers option to go to safari but if I try that, safari tells me the page cannot be opened.

The iOS 12 release is tomorrow. Usually 10am PT. The Classic should work, 12 isn’t a major overhaul.

Re: Has FlickType classic been removed from the app store?
Eileen Misrahi
Hello All,
I am confused. When FlickType first came out, I was not in the beta program, so I am assuming I was using the classic version. Now that I have the beta version, it overrode the classic version. Do I still have the classic version in my app list that are not on my iPhone list? Just curious. Thanks. Eileen

Thanks for that explanation. I've only ever had one device at a time so I didn't know you could auto sync the downloads. Alan

Has anyone tried flicktype Classic on ios 12? I know that maintaining flicktype Classic is very hard because it uses the old Fleksy code as a base.

I think Kosta would like to only have one app to have to maintain, and since he built FlickType from scratch, he will have an easier time with it. I think you can use the demo version in the container app just like flicktype Classic. Chuck

Ashley, I can only comment on my own personal experience when purchasing a new iPhone a little less than a month ago and restoring my backup to it. I had an app named Snippets that I used regularly to transfer text between computer and iPhone. However, Snippets was no longer in the Apps Store when I restored my backup to my new iPhone and therefore, it was no longer on my iPhone after the restore. I'm pretty sure apps are not included in what is backed up to either iCloud or a local computer so I'm not sure how their being tied to a particular Apple ID enters into the restoration. If the app isn't available in the Apps Store when one does their restore, there is no source from which to restore it. So, it seems your removing FlickType Classic from the Apps Store makes it no longer available to anyone restoring a backup to a new device. Actually, the removal of apps from iTunes backups was introduced with iTunes 12.7 which was released last September so it's been about a year that this was the case. I'm not following your comment that having an app on another device with automatic download might enable you to get it to a new iPhone. As far as I'm aware, there is no device-to-device transfer of apps in the iOS world. If the app isn't in the Apps Store, it isn't getting on a new device. Alan Lemly
