I turn on voiceover mostly on my. iPhone (rather than iPad) because I can rarely get the text large and bold enough for me to read.

Dear FlickTypers,

We are looking to improve aspects of FlickType for those of you who are low-vision but do not always use VoiceOver. If that sounds like you, please let us know if you would like to be added to a new small group of users who will automatically get earlier builds, and provide us feedback for low-vision features like visual announcements, keyboard and character visual indicators, high-contrast color pairs, and more. And if you know someone else who might find this useful, we would be happy to add them to the group as well.

Thank you for your continued support! ☺️

Warmly,
Kosta

Like Chuck, I turn off VoiceOver when the app is not accessible such as an introductory tutorial is an image and I need to go to the last page to continue to the app or etc. I also turn off voiceover if there is a graphic item that needs to be tapped on, which is by trial and error if it will work. In the MBraille app, I turn off VoiceOver because there is a self-voicing feature that is more responsive in using the app.

New App Store version 2.6

Please always restart your device after updating FlickType, and send all your feedback to hello@flicktype.groups.io. Thank you!
What's new:
- New half-screen, direct-commit mode where all text changes are instantly reflected in the current text field. This currently only works for non-VoiceOver users due to iOS limitations, but we are still looking for ways to bring it to VoiceOver users as well.
- The "Next keyboard" key and setting will be hidden on devices that have a dedicated, always-present "Next keyboard" key (such as the iPhone X), or if FlickType is the only keyboard in the keyboard list.
- Bugfixes.

Previously:
- Reading back your text with a 3-finger press can now also be done with 2-fingers. This should also allow Accessibility Zoom users to utilize this feature, which previously conflicted with the zoom gestures.
- Words will now also be spelled after moving the cursor.
- Added voice feedback when VoiceOver is disabled.
- Add setting to toggle "Voice Feedback", enabled by default.
- You can now use your existing iOS text replacement shortcuts with FlickType. Configure text replacements from iOS Settings, General, Keyboard, Text Replacement. If you tap-type the shortcut, it will automatically be expanded into its phrase. If you type it accurately by touch-typing each letter, you'll need to flick down to expand it. Replacement shortcuts can only contain letters, but expanded phrases can be anything, including numbers, symbols, spaces, and even emoji. Be creative, smile! Please note: the replacements don't work inside the container app due to iOS limitations.

Thank you for supporting FlickType, and please tell your friends if you are enjoying it!

Warmly,
Kosta and Ashley

With the half screen keyboard on my brand new iPad running iOS 12 beta, the keyboard does not display properly. The lower two rows are about an inch high while the top row has only about a quarter of an inch visible. This means that if letters are set to show, the top row of letters are not displayed as they are up off screen. On my iPad, I tend not to use VoiceOver much, as I have a very narrow tunnel of vision which works ok with larger text sizes, so I would love a toggle in settings so I could keep all letters on keyboard displayed as capital letters, rather than them changing to displaying as lower case after the first couple of taps. Would that be possible?

Currently at the moment only sighted users are able to benefit. I believe that Kosta and Ashley are trying to fine tune it for VoiceOver users. I think I read somewhere that it's a technical issue that they are facing at present. Lets all be patient. I'm fully confident that they will be able to sort out there current issues and then once that's done, we'll all have a lovely new beta to mess around with, provide comments, feedback on etc. 😀

I have noticed that the half screen keyboard seems to slightly lag in its response. I have to be careful to actually press the screen relatively firmly rather than just being able to tap quickly like I would with the Apple keyboard or with the old fleksy.

Re: Do you ever disable VoiceOver? #poll

The only time I would ever disable VO would be if a sighted person were doing something with my phone.  I sometimes turn off speech, as in when I’m readingwith a voiced app  or listening to music and don’t want to hear notifications, but VO is of course still enabled.

Flicktype and the Uber app.

Christopher Sims <cjsims@...>

Hi.

Firstly, I love your app, and Use it all the time. Making you aware that it would appear as if there is a likely issue with the Uber chat part of the app. While your keyboard is working to compose the message to my uber driver, the issue comes when I dismiss the keyboard. I'm unable to locate the send button using voiceover. This happens no matter if I am exploring by touch or flicking. I am able to locate it if I go back to the standard keyboard then the send button appears. Please could you try and see if you are able to reproduce this? I look forward to this being fixed.
Kind regards, Christopher Sims

Request for App Store reviews

Dear FlickType friends,

App Store reviews go a really long way in helping small developers of apps like ours. Please help your favorite keyboard by taking just 3 minutes of your time to write a short review with your honest opinion about FlickType. You can use the following link from your iOS device to go there directly: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1359485719?action=write-review

If you have already reviewed FlickType, you can still help us by spreading the word and telling your friends about it.

Thank you for your support, we really appreciate it! ☺️

Re: Flicktype and the Uber app.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for reporting and sorry you're having an issue! What version of FlickType are you using? And which version of iOS are you using?

Thanks,
Ashley

FlickType introductions to schools, organizations, or similar

Hi FlickType Friends,

We’re preparing to reach out to schools and other organizations in order to reach a larger audience. For products like FlickType, the keyboard has the potential of getting better at an expedited rate the more people we can reach. If you happen to work with a school or organization, or maybe you know someone that does, we’d super appreciate your help.

Happy FlickTyping!
Ashley and Kosta

Re: Sign in required with latest update from the app store

Hi Ashley, this is reassuring to know. Eventually got fed up with the sign in prompt, so went ahead and signed in and problem went away. ☺️

Hi Daniel,

All I've found online are old articles about the problem. The typical instructions were available, restart your device and if it's still happening, sign out of the App Store and sign back in. You can do this in settings, click your name at the top of the list, iTunes and App Store, click your Apple ID and sign out. If this doesn't work they recommend you try to change your password. I want to clarify based on your last message when you get the standard Apple ID sign-in form, this is not the app asking for your Apple ID sign in, this is coming directly from Apple.

Good luck!
Ashley

Re: Please cancel my monthly subscription?

Hi Juanita, did you managed to cancel your subscription? Has any beta or updates to the app improved your problem?

Regards

Daniel

Hi Juanita,

You may cancel your subscription at any time, as this is something that Apple gives you full control over. You go to settings, tap your Apple Id at the top of the page, iTunes and App Store, tap your Apple ID and click view, scroll down to subscriptions to manage any subscriptions you buy from the App Store.

Thanks!

Duplicated messages to the chat list

Daniel McGee

Hi all

Apparently I haven't been getting duplicated messages on the beta list of FlickType. However, can anyone tell me if you are getting more than one message on the FlickType chat list?

An noticing that when I am responding to a message to the FlickType chat list, am seeing two copies of my reply and wondered if others have seen this from me or are having the same issue yourself.

Thanks

Daniel
