Re: Comments on Voice Changes in Latest Update

Shawn,

I admit that adjusting this setting would likely solve the problem. However, I don't wish to do this as I have my iPhone set to raise the pitch when I encounter or type a capitalized letter. With screen readers, a sudden voice change usually means there is a unique change to the letter or text which is being announced. As an example, with most screen readers, at least on Windows, raising the pitch of a character indicates that the character is capitalized. With JAWS, you could adjust the pitch to be lower than your default voice pitch if, let's say, the text is underlined or if the text is being read with the JAWS cursor and not the PC cursor. In other words, changes in the synthesizer's voice usually means that there's something different or unique about that text which the user is being alerted to. With this new change in Flicktype, I am unaware as to what is different or unique about what I am typing or the messages indicating that I'm switching into numbers mode. It just doesn't make sense to me and it no longer mirrors or mimics the experience of using the standard iOS keyboard while manually entering text, which is something I always appreciated about Flicktype. As I mentioned in a previous message, I feel this change should either be reverted or the user should have an option to enable it.

Hello. I don't know if I'm in the minority with this but I would prefer that VoiceOver's voice not change when interacting with the Flicktype keyboard. One of the things I've always liked about the keyboard in Flicktype is that it tries to mirror the experience when interacting with the standard iOS keyboard. With the latest update, the pitch of the voice is noticeably higher when typing or when changing from letters to numbers. When typing, this provides the false impression that I'm typing in upper case. I'd personally like to see this change reverted back to the way it was. Alternatively, could there be an option in settings to enable or disable the voice change options? This would satisfy both camps of users.

Many thanks. Don't get me wrong; I still love this app. I just would prefer the voice to remain the same when I interact with its keyboard.

bug when switching to landscape mode

Field, S. (Scott)

Hi

I find that when I am using the notes with voiceover on, I start typing in portrait mode and then if I switch to landscape I cannot type.  No matter where I touch it just says “FlickType”.  If I turn voiceover off and on again, staying in landscape, then FlickType works again.

Yeah I know how screenreaders change pitch when it encounters a capital letter. I just gave you an alternative that you can use to avoid this. Every time I encounter a capital letter with Voiceover, whether it be on my phone or my Mac, I have it set to play a sound when this happens. I like hearing a sound when I encounter capital letters, especially if the voice I'm using can't make pitch change. But I guess it's personal preference. If you want the pitch to change, so be it.

Re: bug when switching to landscape mode

Hi Scott,

Thank you for reporting this issue and sorry for the trouble. We have this on our list of future fixes that are based on priority, so far this is our 2nd report so it's pretty obscure for users thus far. For now, we recommend the workaround that you have already discovered.

Thanks, again!

Tiffany Green <tgreenhu@...>

hi. I like your app. However, how do I get past the main screen to use it? I can’t afford to upgrade for the monthly fee. Thank you

Re: Getting past the main screen

Hi Tiffany,

Thanks for your message. We have a couple of free options, you can type in the demo tab or download FlickType Classic. For either of these options, you can share what you type in your favorite apps through the share sheet.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Warmly,
Ashley

Capitals on keyboard?

Harry Bell

On my iPad I find the FlickType keyboard has two problems: the rows of letters are too far apart, even with the reduced height toggle on. The other problem is that the keyboard reverts to lower case letters after the first word typed. In my iOS keyboard settings I disable showing lower case letters. It is also puzzling that the keyboard remains in upper case keys during typing the first word and then changes to showing lower case keys. Is there some reason for this?

Help

Maurice Atkins <maurice.atkins@...>

Please help. My FlickType app is working fine except for when I am finished typing and switch back to the regular keyboard none of the text that I have typed appears in my text field. I would love any feedback on how to fix this problem please. Thank you

New App Store version

Please always restart your device after updating FlickType, and send all your feedback to hello@flicktype.groups.io. Thank you!

What's new:
- You can now use your existing iOS text replacement shortcuts with FlickType. Configure text replacements from iOS Settings, General, Keyboard, Text Replacement. If you tap-type the shortcut, it will automatically be expanded into its phrase. If you type it accurately by touch-typing each letter, you'll need to flick down to expand it after you space. Replacement shortcuts can only contain letters, but expanded phrases can be anything, including numbers, symbols, spaces, and even emoji. Be creative, smile!

Please note: the replacements don't work inside the container app due to iOS limitations.

Thank you for supporting FlickType, and please tell your friends if you are enjoying it!

Warmly,
Kosta and Ashley

Re: Help

Hi Maurice,

So sorry to hear about this issue. Have you restarted your device since experiencing the issue? If not, I recommend you start there. After restarting if you still have the issue will you please send me the following information:
- Device model, exact version of iOS you are using, and the exact version of FlickType you are using.
- When did the issue start occurring? What exactly happened? As detailed as possible.

Thank you!

Hi,

How do these text replacements work?

Is it like preset messages you can set up and automatically send with flick type?

Hi Taylor,

just as they say.

Configure text replacements from iOS Settings, General, Keyboard, Text Replacement.

You have two fields, one where you enter a character string, like a few letters, and A second one where You enter its corresponding text. It's quite easy to do.

Cheers,

Sign in required with latest update from the app store

Daniel McGee

Hi Kosta and Ashley

Just downloaded the latest version of Flicktype from the app store and not sure if this is a problem or not.

When I opened the Flicktype app, it wanted me to: sign in on the iPhone. Thought I would ask here first because I've read online that this is a method in which bad people can take over an Apple ID. I haven't entered my password yet and granted it permission.

So wanted to check in with you to see if this is normal behavior or not. By the way, this pop up box didn't appear on my iPad, where I have also installed the latest app store version.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Question: German Language support

Matthias Lindemann

Dear Developer Team,

is the support of the FlickType German language keyboard planned for the future?
If not by now, I honestly request for this feature which will support all blind user who live in Germany, Austria and Suisse.
If yes, when can we expect this feature?

Many thanks in advance for any kind of information on this topic.

Kindest regards

Re: Sign in required with latest update from the app store

Hi Daniel,

This is the first report we've heard of this. We recommend you first going to the App Store and clicking your App Store profile to check whether you accidentally got signed out of the App Store for whatever reason. If you are signed out, signing back in here should alleviate the problem. Additionally, we do not believe risk signing in again when asked in FlickType, unless you have a jailbroken phone.

Please let us know how it goes,
Ashley

Re: changing from words to characters

Hi Joe,

Sounds like you're looking for a way to navigate by character. For now, you can only navigate by character while you're manually typing a word, but we will be adding a way to hear the spelling of specific words when you go back to navigate what you've typed.

Cheers!
