Re: App pricing

Because it’s a very small market and while thiurd party keyboards may not operate using a subscription model, there are plenty of apps which use this method. Maybe companies like Microsoft, Google or Apple can afford to develop free apps for the blind, but a couple who wants to do something nice and incidently comes up with a great product for a few thousand people should not be expected to do it for free. I for one have no problem paying a buck a month for being able to type as fast as a sighted person, OK, let’s say as fast as some sighted people, there still are sighted people who can type a lot faster and also others who are slower.

I don't think a A subscription based product would work. People just wouldn't pay. I myself don't really fancy paying an ongoing subscription  for this application. I am more than happy to pay a one-off charge and then if there is a major update in years to come paying another one but on a monthly basis I don't think this is the correct way to go. In my personal opinion sided people do not have to pay a monthly subscription for any keyboards out there so why should we.

Hi Leonard,

Thanks for your feedback. Our pricing plans are fluid and we will try to come up with a pricing structure that works for everyone, but for now, we've found that this is the most accessible pricing structure for the largest number of people.

Re: App pricing

Hi Ashley,

I agree with Leonard and would prefer an annual subscription for $11.88 (12 * $0.99) or even for $11.99, I'm not worried about a few pennies. I don't know what sort of rules Apple imposes when it comes to these subscriptions, but if you can offer it on a monthly and annual subscription I would be happy to see the option of an annual subscription added.

Keep it simple, if the subscription works for Kosta and Ashley then that’s fine with me, just that as I said I would like to see an option to pay annually.

There can always be a donation button on their website.

problems in messages

Chris Chaffin

Hello,
I am new to the group and I am enjoying the system keyboard, but I have been experiencing a few different things that I want to see if anyone else is experiencing.
Now I am a voice over user and I am using an iphone 8.

First, in the messages app, after typing a message and dismissing the keyboard, I am unable to swipe to either the edit field or send button. I can only find them on the screen by exploring the screen with my finger. And even after I find the edit field by exploring, I am still not able to swipe from the edit field to the send button.

Second, sometimes after dismissing the keyboard, especially after writing in the messages app, voice over acts funny and it seems that I lose some system sounds, like the sound when the app switcher pops up. I restart voice over and everything returns to normal.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,
I can definitely reproduce your first problem you mentioned. What I had to do was find the send button by exploring by touch. Or you can find the next keyboard button then you should be able to find the send button by swiping.

Re: problems in messages

Hi Chris,

I have a 6S Plus and can confirm/reproduce this. If I type in a Message field and dismiss Flicktype I have to explore the screen by touch, swiping does not work and if I double tap again on the edit field Flicktype becomes active again as a keyboard. If, however, I flick up and hold to change to the iOS keyboard which then is on the screen I can swipe normally.

I can verify the issue here too. This is why we need either some sort of send button or a half sized screen.

As Kosta stated, they are working on the half sized keyboard, for now finding the Send button by touch is not all that difficult and certainly an acceptable work-around.

As far as I know Spanish is also supported, no idea wether fully or partially. At least I can use it with more or less success. The keyboard display is the English one, though, lacking for example the letter ñ or a way to type diacritical symbols.

The way you described your vision of the autocomplete feature was exactly how I envisioned it. A few days ago I stopped by the Flicktype Web site only to discover that this feature was already suggested in exactly the way I envisioned it. <grin>

I really like the suggestions in the iOS keyboard, but if they are shorter words it is often just as fast to finish typing the word than it is to touch the predictions and see if what you want is one of the 3 predictions given. If this could be made to work automatically so you just tap away and, if you hear a prediction that is the right one you can flick to enter it this could be pretty fantastic. You just have to get used to ignoring suggestions if they are not correct and simply continue to type.

Hello, it seems to me that more time would be spent finding and entering the prediction than just typing with FlickType.

In the future, Kosta plans to implement the ability to use text replacements, so those commonly used phrases will insert with a possible minimum of three taps.

Hi.

I am wondering about the feasibility and potential usefulness of a predictive typing mode within Flicktype. I would envision this as an option as I could see some users finding a feature like this annoying, whereas I'm sure that other users, myself included, would find it of great value.

Essentially, this would work similar to the predictive typing feature that we already have with the standard iOS keyboard. Suppose, as an example, I'm writing the phrase "no problem." After typing the word "no" I would type pro and Flicktype would try to guess what I'm attempting to type, based on context. As I type "pro" I imagine Flicktype announcing "problem" If that's the word that I want, I would flick right to accept it. If I want to hear possible suggestions I would flick down to explore the list, as we already do when we've completed a word. Alternatively, I could just ignore the possibility which was offered and continue to type the rest of the word, as normal. I'm wondering if such a feature is worth pursuing? Is it even feasible and would others use it? Are there possible consequences resulting from this that I'm not foreseeing? I admit that such a feature could be chatty and, perhaps, more distracting than some users would like but I can also envision that we could have settings to control certain levels of verbosity such as a setting like "start providing suggestions after X letters have been entered" and perhaps adjustable pauses between the last entered key and the actual announcement of the first suggestion. This last idea would help fast typists not get interrupted. For me, this would make using Flicktype even faster.

There should be a way of toggling off two finger tap to switch between upper case and lower case letters. If I type too fast with my two thumbs, the toggle interacts negatively with typing.
Also is there a way to save words to the dictionary from the system keyboard?

Edit gestures

Field, S. (Scott)

 Hi

It would be great to add the edit options to the gestures by the usual voiceover gesteure of two fingers turning an imaginary dial.  Turn to get to edit, then flick up or down with one finger to move through the edit functions such as select, select all, copy, cut, paste, etc.  when in select, two fingers left or right select’s the word, three fingers left or right the remaining text in that direction.

Furthermore, carrying on with the dial gesture concept, one could  include an entry that toggles the two finger swipe gesture between character, word, sentence and paragraph.  Suddenly FlickType would become a powerful document writing tool for the visually impaired.

In the above scenario, the dial will have the options “Actions, edit and Movement Size (or something similar)” where actions is the standard FlickType set of one finger gestures for changing word, punctuation or emoji.

Regards

Scott

Feature suggestion - Automatic disabling of Zoom when using FlickType

Field, S. (Scott)

Hi

A suggestion to assist partially sighted users.

When the FlickType keyboard opens, disable the IOS zoom, when the keyboard is dismissed, enable it.

I don’t know if IOS allows this to be controlled via third party apps, but it would neatly solve the issue of FlickType being incompatible with the Zoom gestures. Zoom isn’t required when FlickType is on the screen anyway.

Regards

Scott Field
