Re: issues with the new half screen keyboard?

Hi, in the latest FlickType beta, I am noticing that when I delete a word, VoiceOver does not speak the deleted word and just say "space". I cannot consistently duplicate this behavior. I am on the latest public beta of iOS 12 just released today.

Thank you all for the valuable feedback.

- Seems like iOS 12 betas are causing issues for some people, and there's even different reports for different betas. We'll do our best to make this work better, and it might be tricky given the moving target that iOS beta software is until its final release.
- We are considering primarily using the iOS gestures in half screen mode for moving the cursor, but there are some issues with touches that might be consumed by FlickType's Direct Touch view, as opposed to the application above it which would sometimes only receive the top touch of your rotor gesture for example. This also relates to the size of the keyboard, and the smaller it is the easier it will be to perform the rotor gestures since the application's view would be larger and it would be more likely that both touches of your rotor gesture would fall in it. We are investigating and we might try out a few different options here.
- We are still working on the iOS 11 crashes and hope to have an update over the next few days.

Please keep the feedback and ideas coming, as well as what iOS typing feedback settings you found work best with the half-screen mode so that we can be recommending them to people. Thank you!

Warmly,
Kosta

Feedback regarding FlickType and the ios email app.

Liz and Hope

I am using flicktype in half screen mode ,
And so far, it is working very well; however, when I am typing an email when I flick to the right the focus goes to the end of the document, and sometimes flicktype is dismissed. Other than this issue , I am loving the half screen capability.

Odd behavior/instability

Dennis Raher

I’ve noticed that if I turn on the FlickType keyboard and one application, close the application while it’s on, and open a new application flick type keyboard is still active. This would be fine, except for the fact that when it’s on and they edit field is Blake all kinds of instability happens. I cannot enter data, turn off the flick type keyboards, or do anything else since I often get dropped out of the application when I try. Safari on my iPhone is very susceptible to this problem. Starting an application, or opening safari, with the standard keyboard active and then switching to FlickType does not cause the problem.

Hi Ashley .
I should also mention when I use my iPad in portrait mode I type with four fingers and do not encounter any of these problems.

Hi Ashley .
I use two thumbs when in landscape mode to type quickly and almost never had problems like you describe .

I think it is a typing style problem and not a FlickType bug

Hi Ashley, that sounds wonderful. Once it's up and running on the: help and support page, if you could let us all know, that'll be great!

Re: issues with the new half screen keyboard?

Hello jenny,
With Build 154 their is an experimental half screen keyboard that can be used with VoiceOver. It is a first attempt, so its a little buggy, but still usable.
You can select the full or half screen keyboard in settings in the FlickType container app.
I hope this helps,
Chuck

I am having a few issues with the new half screen keyboard on flicktype. I am using IOS 12, developer beta 8 on an iphone 8. If I go into a text message field, the keyboard still appears to be full screen with voiceover enabled, if I go to the top right corner to find the send button for a text, it's not there. Also, I was typing out a whatsapp message earlier, I got so far, and then I just couldn't type anymore, the app crashed.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm not too sure what the behaviour is on ios 11.4.1

thanks,

I have been using FlickType with ios 12 since the beginning and have not seen specific problems with that over 11 .Ymmv, but I wouldn't expect major problems .

Re: Feedback regarding the half screen.

Tangela Mahaffey <tangela.m.m@...>

Its worth noting that when it says space after inserting a period, what is actually happening is that FlickType is putting a period and then a space, as is correct. Its reasonable to assume that both are correctly entered as they most often are.

There are glitches, but you are certainly heading in the right direction. Firs.t of all, the half screen keyboard works better or terrible depending on where it is used. For me, the full screen has to be used when writing an emailthe right in an email to insert a punctuation, FlickType is dismissed, and the iOS keyboard is in focus. When typing text messages or posting in facebook, I am noticing a couple of glitches. When I type a word and flick down to hear the word suggestions, VoiceOver will say bottom of document. I wait a second, and the first word suggestion will be spelled. Eventually, I do find the correct word suggestion. When flicking to the right to insert a punctuation, VoiceOver will say space instead of period. Flicking down will bring the comma in focus, and then I can flick up to the period. It seems like FlickType and ios are fighting for focus. Keep up the excellent work.

Hello Jack,
To return to the iOS keyboard either find the  next keyboard button on the lower left of the screen, or do a short flick up and hold.
I hope this helps, chuck

FlickType and iOS 12

 Hi costa and Ashley,
Firstly I am writing this in full screen as I was writing the last message and found that most of my text went away when I went back to the iOS keyboard.
Just wondering, will flicktype be compatible with iOS 12?

Kind regards,

George Cham
