Build 168

Hi Kosta,
I noticed that the "Almost Full Screen" keyboard size option was removed in this release. Why did that happen? And what is the solution for someone who uses apps like WhatsApp (that experience crashes with the Full screen option), and do not wish to use the Half Screen or Minimal screen option? Salman

Hi Salman. We will soon add a gesture to switch keyboard sizes on the fly. In the meantime, you can use the half screen mode and temporarily enter full screen mode where needed by switching to landscape, if that works for you. I would also love to know from everyone using WhatsApp, if it is still crashing like before, and if you have tried this on iOS 12. Hopefully the lack of “Almost Full Screen” is not a big issue. If it remains an issue, I might add a workaround toggle outside of the main size setting, to keep the settings simpler and less confusing.

Personally, I do not use my phone in landscape mode. Ever. It is not something I prefer, for anything, let alone for typing. I am quite sure I'm not the only one. I understand that you may add a gesture to switch keyboards on the fly, but that doesn't solve the problem of having other apps crash in "Full Screen" mode. The "Almost Full Screen" was simply there to prevent those crashes, is my understanding. So for someone like me who prefers and likes the Full Screen mode better, and doesn't prefer the Minimal/Half Screen, I am not sure what the solution would be if apps crash and I am unable to use Flicktype in them, other than forcing myself to use the Half Screen or Minimal size. So I would vote for the "Almost Full Screen" option to be made available, even if it is outside of the main size setting, like you said. At least until we're a 100% sure that apps are no longer crashing in full screen mode. Salman

I would think a good solution would be to have a setting in the container app which lets you change the full screen mode to almost full screen.

So when the gesture to switch is introduced, people who enable that setting would be toggling between minimal, half and almost full, rather than minimal, half and full. Dave

Thank you Salman and David. David, what you propose is what I was thinking, but I'm still trying to figure out what would be best.
Another idea is to make the full screen mode be almost full screen, for all users. It's not ideal, but crashing apps aren't either. Salman, are you still experiencing crashes with WhatsApp and full screen mode? Anyone else tried that recently, specially on iOS 12? Thanks, Kosta

lot, only began using it a few hours ago (once I installed the latest build). Have used it sporadically uptil now as I've been busy with my regular job. Last time too the crashing of the app began happening after a few times of using it. But I agree with the idea of having the option outside of the main size setting, so that it is available only for situations where it's necessary. Salman

Their you go, spoke too soon. The crashes are back Kosta. Just happened. 4:16pm and 4:17pm Eastern Time.

Different thread from the last time, so far anyway. And this one doesn’t even have that many text messages in it. It’s actually a much shorter thread. , I think I will probably install the previous build, one that has the almost full screen option available to me.

Not sure if you caught my last message on this thread from yesterday. The WhatsApp crashes have returned with the latest build, when in full screen mode. Without the almost full screen option available to me, I am unable to use Flicktype in WhatsApp at this point, considering the only other options available are the half screen or the minimal, both of which I don't prefer to use. I reinstalled the latest build right now, just to check again, and the app crashes immediately. It is happening in different threads. The times for the crashes I experienced yesterday were 4:16pm and 4:17pm, Eastern Time. After this I installed a previous build, that was, Build 165, which had the almost full screen option available. All was normal after that of course. A little while ago, I installed Build 168 again, just to test and the crashes are there. Times for those were 11:28am and 11:29am, Eastern Time. This is happening every single time, so anytime I double tap the text field in the thread to type a message, the app crashes. I am going to install Build 165 again now. Just wanted to give another update. Salman

Thank you for the reports, Salman. What iOS version are you using by the way? I will be adding the almost full screen option in the next build. In the meantime, build 165 is your best bet.
