Custom keyboard vs the app.
Chuck Dean
I have been wondering why I prefer the app to the custom keyboard when sending messages and emails.
As I sent my last email I realize that I utilize work flows to handle a lot of the tasks. In actuality, it takes more taps to use the Workflow, but it is faster and less frustrating. I will probably always use the app; even after the custom keyboard is fully functional. 😎 Chuck

Fair enough. Was worth a shot. In yet a further amendment to my issue with audio cutting out, it is in fact happening with both the main app and the custom keyboard, but is intermittent, sometimes it cuts out, and sometimes it doesn't. Dave

Slight amendment to my last mail. It is only the main app that is cutting out other audio, the custom keyboard does not.

Chuck, just a thought, but could your issue with tap volume be connected to audio ducking? I notice that when playing music or other audio, it stops when I open the FlickType keyboard, which tells me that FlickType is linked to the main device audio.

Honestly I could count on one hand the number of times I've used the main app since the custom keyboard cane along. Its just so convenient.

I would only use the main app now if writing something fairly long, where I know I will need to enter some words manually, or enter numbers. Once the custom keyboard is fully featured, I can't imagine ever using the main app. That said, everyone is different so I am sure it makes sense to keep both around, plus that is likely part of the business model being envisaged. Hi everyone, this build is working ok for me so far. The only miner thing was that when I clicked reply so I could respond to this email was that it bought up the iOS keyboard which was fine but where it should have the word FlickType for me to press, instead it said English UK but when I pressed it it still took me to FlickType. Regards, Paul.

I think I use the main app more than the custom version at the moment simply due to being able to enter necessary punctuation, numbers and especially manual typing. The custom keyboard is coming on nicely though and I predict once those features are available then the scales will tip towards the custom keyboard. MackyÂ

Thanks! What a great idea! As someone who has never been good at spelling this will be a great help.Chuck

Hi Dave. I've come across this situation also. Whilst my spelling is generally fine, if I come across a word I'm not sure of I quickly ask Siri to spell the word in question and type it straight in. It works well. MackyÂ

Chuck, Â Well, maybe they won't be able to split it but I say whatever. How inconvenient is it really to have the main app installed even if someone doesn't intend to use it? It's not as if it will get in the way of the custom keyboard which will be accessed from a text input area like all other software keyboards. And I can't imagine that the main app uses much memory to be installed. Â Alan Lemly Â

Hi Allen, I doubt that. When the fleksy keyboard was made to go system wide, they still required a app to do updates and it any kind of add-ons that may have been for sale as in app purchases. Best thing to do is just make a folder and stick it in there and hide it someplace. I have a folder on my iPhone that I called junk drawer, it’s a bunch apps that I have on my phone that I might use some day, probably won’t, but I can just stick them all in there and not worry about them. Mike, Â If by stating that you hope the main app is removed when the custom keyboard is released you mean removed completely from the Apps Store, that seems sort of a selfish viewpoint. Just because you won't be using the main app doesn't mean others won't be. But maybe the main app and custom keyboard will be split into two separate apps and you'll be able to remove it from your own device. Â Alan Lemly Â
From: alpha@flicktype.groups.io [mailto:alpha@flicktype.groups.io] On Behalf Of Michael Maslo  I just responded to the poll. My hope is when the custom keyboard is released that the application is removed. I see no use of having both around. The custom keyboard once complete will dominate use and I see no purpose of it. I use the custom keyboard ninety nine percent of the time and the other one percent I use the apple keyboard. I do not and have never have used the main application since the custom keyboard was released. In my opinion also it is harder to maintain two applications when only one is needed. This is my personal opinion bind you.

Build 64
I just tried the FlickType custom keyboard on my iPad mini two, in landscape mode. It was almost like typing on a regular keyboard I could use eight fingers to select the letters. With a little practice I think I could get very fast with this. I can hardly wait until this keyboard is fully functional. Chuck

There is no big change in this build from the previous one. The white bar at the bottom is ok representing the top and bottom rows of keys. But I think the white bar at the bottom should go, and just keep the screen black. And oh!
Yes, keep the large letters.
