Build 45

Ok, I've just imported dictionary from backup
However, the link does not open in microsoft outlook.
When I opened it in apple mail it worked.
Can this be fixed so the link will open in other mail apps besides apple mail? Also, when import was completed, there was no notification that the import was done.
It just went back to the email message.

Kind regards,

George Cham

Thanks! Smile.

Re: Build 45

Thank you George. Since the Apple Mail app is available to everyone, we think it's best for our users if we instead focus on more impactful things, like developing the new system-wide keyboard extension.

That said, I'm surprised to hear that there was no confirmation that the import took place. Once you tap the link and it opens in FlickType, you should get an alert with something like "Added 12 words to the dictionary".

Chuck, did that work for you as I described?

Thanks,
Kosta

Yes, it did.

Hi,

Just dropping in to also confirm the dictionary import is working well. Thanks a bunch for this!

In this release:
- Fixed broken dictionary export and import flow.
- Renamed "Export dictionary" menu option to just "Dictionary", since you can also use it to read what is currently in your dictionary.

As always, thank you for testing FlickType!

Previous builds link

Benny Barber

Hello,

I don't see a link on my test flight app to load a previous build. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Benny

Re: Previous builds link

Benny,

1. From the TestFlight Redeem page, place focus on the FlickType
Keyboard version 1.0-45 app and double tap (the open button will be to the
right of where you want focus to be).

2. Single finger swipe right until the previous builds button has focus
and double tap.

3. On the previous builds screen which opens, the first line says 1.0
six builds and is the only thing listed here. Double tap on it.

4. You'll be given a list of the available previous builds each with an
install button to their right. Double tap on the install button for the one
you want.

Hope this helps.

Re: Build 45

Paul Sutton

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a bug or I am doing something wrong but weather I have echo entered characters turned on or not, it doesn't echo when I type. Cheers, Paul.

Re: Build 45

Thank you Paul. The current setting named "Echo entered characters" is confusing at best. When you tap and hold to find a particular letter, you will hear what character your finger is currently touching, and when you release, that character will be entered. With that setting on, you will also get character feedback on release.

We'll improve on this soon, thank you for the feedback.

Re: Build 44

Hi Ed, we will consider that as an option in the future. We are first going to investigate how feasible it is to have the full screen size be the core way of using it.

Re: Build 44

Thank you Paul, we are indeed thinking of adding a gesture that will perform the read back function without having to move your device to your ear.

Single word spell

Benny Barber

Kosta and Ashley,

This may be a silly and unfeasible idea. I am not fond of having the spell words feature on, but sometimes it is difficult to know if you have entered the correct word. This is because some words can sound very similar. Would it be possible to have a gesture to spell just the one word that you just entered? Just a thought. Thanks.

Benny

Re: Single word spell

Ed Worrell

Hello All,

I agree with this idea. I have found that sometimes when typing with FlickType and I pause just long enough the spell feature takes over and it is spelling words when I am typing. This is very distracting. Maybe a two finger double tap on the keyboard could invoke the single word spell option. This is a very common gesture for VO users, and it would be a great place to use it.

Re: Single word spell

Chanelle Allen

Hello,
At first, I thought that the single word spell feature would be a great idea. It would be useful if FlickType continues to be a self-contained app; however, FlickType is being developed as a system-wide keyboard. So, if we are not sure about hearing a word correctly, we will be able to return to the text area where VoiceOver commands may be used to review what has been written. Still, if developing a gesture or method for hearing the spelling of one word is feasible and doesn't conflict with anything else, the feature would be useful. On the other hand, for me, a gesture that could read back the last few words or a phrase I typed would be extremely helpful. I think that each of us wants a little something different from FlickType. Right now, FlickType is a wonderful app that will only keep getting better. I am glad that it is in the App store available for many to enjoy and utilize.

Comment on Flicktype 1.0-45

Hi List,

I got a notification from TestFlight that this version was available so I'm
assuming it's an alpha version. The one thing I noticed and this may have
been the case since the very beginning is that if you have the copy and
clear on exit setting turned on as I do and you choose the Help & Support
option from the menu, that you'll be taken to a web page in Safari for the
help info and when you return to FlickType, any text you had typed will have
been cleared. This isn't a very big deal for the way I use FlickType but it
could be very annoying for someone who goes to the menu often and is
attempting to check something in the help. I don't know if it's even
possible but if choosing the help option could disable the clear setting
until returning back to the menu, that would be less surprising.

Hi list,
I also got the testflight notification about the new build.
I don't know about copy and clear on exit, but I found that when I go to help and support in menu, I'm taken to the website.
I think this was changed in previous builds.

Version 1.0-45 Request

Hi List,

I find that whenever I'm typing an apostrophe, I'm following it with an s to
express possession. I've found the easiest way to do this is to hold a
single finger on the keyboard, select the colon from the new line that pops
up above the keys, and single finger swipe down until the apostrophe is
listed. It would be nice if an apostrophe plus an s could be added to one of
the available selections under one of the special characters that pop up
when this top row is invoked. Has anyone found an apostrophe s anywhere else
as a selection or do you have workarounds for entering it? I try to add
names with a trailing apostrophe s to my dictionary especially for names
that I often type but FlickType still only speaks apostrophe s after
manually entering a possessive name and I'm still not quite sure what gets
entered into the dictionary.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.
