Re: Build 37 out to alpha
Macster
Hi guys,
Thank you so much for adding the option to turn off the keyboard echo for manually entering characters, and by having it off by default as well. I'm sure some people will like to have it on so it's nice to have the option available. I wasn't sure when I read the note about the single flick up from the bottom to access the menu but I really like it. And as the two finger swipe up is normally the read from the top gesture, could this gesture also be used in a different way in future? Just a thought. And it also means I don't evoke the menu by mistake when I maybe press too high when going for the £ or whatever so this is a welcome change too. If I did bring up the menu in error however, the two options are copy and export text. Could there maybe be a resume typing or cancel option there too? There is cancel at the bottom of the export text sub menu of course so it's not a huge issue. A small point regarding the orientation lock options. There is one for landscape left and one for landscape right, but there isn't one for portrait. Not sure it's totally necessary but but just another small suggestion. Regarding the latency issue mentioned in previous posts - the only time I notice any latency at all is if, for example, I type 5 words then decide to start again so I start to swipe left more than 5 times, ie more than the number of words I've typed, then I get the no more text to delete message and the bump sound. Then when I begin typing again it sometimes doesn't feel quite as crisp as it did beforehand. Can anyone else confirm this? Something I've just noticed whilst typing the previous paragraph - if I type any of the characters, symbols or numbers from the row above the keyboard then I still hear the keyboard echo, even with echo switched off. Great job guys and these are minor bugs and I genuinely think the app is very nearly ready. :) Alan |

Re: Build 37 out to alpha
Thank you Andrew, this is good feedback. Did you feel like you could previously distinguish between the home and app switcher gestures before ending your swipe up? Or did that not matter?

Re: Build 37 out to alpha
Thank you Shinji.
Do you like the new menu gesture? If you haven't tried it yet, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen. Would love to hear what people think about it, and how it compares to the two finger flick up. I should also note here that this addresses the iPhone X missing haptic feedback issue when performing the home & app switcher gesture. The tradeoff, however, is that you have to perform the gesture twice: once to bring up the FlickType menu, and one more time to actually invoke the iOS system gesture. Thank you all for testing. - Kosta |

I have to say, swipe up feature on an iPhone X is not good. It majorly conflicts with the voiceover gestures for the home gesture and app switcher gesture. getting out of the app is almost impossible and very confusing at this point. This was a terrible change from my perspective. Andrew On Apr 17, 2018, at 3:45 AM, FlickType <hello@...> wrote: |

Build 37 out to alpha
Please report all your feedback by replying to this topic. Thank you for testing FlickType!
In this release: - Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to invoke the menu! This replaces the tap & hold gesture above the keyboard. The two finger flick up remains available but may be removed in the future. - Added "Echo entered characters" setting. Off by default. - Removed Facebook option from the Share sheet, as it did not work properly. - Removed Copy option from the Share sheet. Please use the dedicated "Copy & Clear" option directly from the menu. In the previous release: - Attempt to fix lost feedback on tap & hold mode. Please let us know if the issue is fixed. - Slightly reduced delay to enter tap & hold mode. - Fixed tap & hold characters sometimes not being announced when releasing to enter them. - Renamed some settings and added descriptions. - Brought back the previous unduckable sound effect playback mode as a setting, on by default. Please test this & other sound settings as much as possible and report latency, volume or any other sound issues and feedback. - Merged deletion feedback settings. - Haptic setting now only appears on supported devices. - Settings are now dismissible using the scrub / back gesture. - Removed quick reply link setting as it caused confusion and was rarely used. - Replaced menu options "Instructions", "We love feedback!", "Tell-a-friend" and "FlickType on the web" with a single "Help & Support" web redirect option. - Two finger double tap when the menu is open, also known as "magic tap", will now select the "Export text" option. - Use higher-quality voice (if available) when VoiceOver is disabled - Updated dictionary - Fixed crashes Please report all your feedback by replying to this topic. Thank you for testing FlickType! Kosta & Ashley |

Re: Build 36 is out to alpha
I agree with Alan (Macster) about not liking the typing echo when manually entering words one key at a time. The initial announcement of the key when you find it is enough and the echo is distracting. I also find it distracting when it echoes when inputting numbers from the numeric keypad that appears with the 2 finger swipe right.

First things first, I think this is the most complete and the smoothest version yet so congratulations on a good job! A few comments on the changes... Entering words manually certainly has a much more crisp feel and there is a definite upturn in responsiveness from press to character announcement. One small request though, could we have the option to turn off the character echo please? Announcing the letter as I type is a necessity but repeating it once I've lifted my finger is something I'm not keen on. Not a bug by any means, just personal preference. Even though I use touch typing in the standard keyboard I have the echo turned off. I've gone through all the sound settings. I like the new marimba click sound and think I'll keep this on. As I use audio ducking by default, I noticed the clicks became more prominent with unduckable mode on as expected, but after changing between this and customizable I'm happy to report I couldn't notice any latency issues between the two. I did turn the clicks down from 60 to 40 with unduckable on but again, nothing more than personal preference there. I'm not a fan of the delete sound as it seems a bit loud /sharp, maybe this is simply due to its volume standing out from my preferred set up though. I prefer to use the change pitch for deleting, which works well with the standard Irish voice but lowers a bit too much with standard English Daniel voice which is on if VoiceOver is disabled. Is this just due to the slower speed and /or reduced quality of the non enhanced voice? A very minor issue regardless. I'm keen to try the haptic feedback options but I'll do so on a friend's phone when the app is officially released as I'm running an SE. I like being able to dismiss the settings with the two finger scrub and also going straight to the export text option with the two finger double tap in particular. Great uses of these gestures. Are there any plans to add a favourite contacts section for quick access? Maybe this is something the pinch gesture could be used for? I've only been using the new build for an hour so I'll report back with anything else I notice as I go, but happy to report their have been no crashes or latency issues at all here. Keep up the good work! Alan |

This is the smoothest running version of FlickType yet! Keep up the fantastic work. I am in love with the new click sounds that you added a few versions back. I however an not in love with the volume of the delete sound. It would be great to have the same volume settings for the delete sound as we have for the click sounds. Manual typing seems to be stable again, but it now is repeating characters after you lift your finger. Could we please have an option to turn off the character echo. This makes manual typing slow and confusing. Thanks, Ed On Apr 16, 2018, at 8:37 AM, FlickType <hello@...> wrote: |

I didn't report the crashes as I believe that they are related to the iOS 11.4 beta. I'm sorry, I should have reported them. The app was crashing when I would copy text to the clip board. This is no longer the case after build 35. You have seemed to fix the lag on first load with build 36. The lag was about 4 seconds. You have cut that in half. Re: Build 35 is out to alpha testers
Thank you Ed. Could you please describe which crash is the one that seems fixed for you?
On the keyboard taking more time to load, could you please give us a sense of the amount of difference, for example takes twice as long, or 3 seconds? And is that compared to build 34 or some other build? Thanks again, - Kosta |

Build 35 is out to alpha testers
This is a "hotfix" build to address some crashes. Unfortunately it was delayed by a few days due to Apple's beta review process but you should now have that available on TestFlight. We are hoping to push this to the beta group within 24 hours, unless something major comes up.
Thank you for testing! - Kosta |

Re: Latest build
I've been getting notified of new builds via email but those emails seem to lag the actual availability of the build by several hours and usually a new day has dawned before I get the notification email. Due to this time lag, I just find it easier to check TestFlight from time to time to see if a new build is out.
