Hello Kosta, Awhile back you mentioned that someday you might have the FlickType keyboard populate the text field as text is being written. I believe you said that the draw back of this method is we would have to turn off all VoiceOver typing feedback. With the current state of the keyboard would this make the disappearing text issue, well... Disappear? I personally feel that the keyboard is just about close enough to fully independently used with out needing the iOS keyboard. For me the only real function missing is the ability to use the return key as a search key or junk fields in the nail application. Just my thoughts. Again great job with the current releases. Ed

Re: Build 73, text still vanishing.
Hi Kosta, The last time the text vanished was about two hours ago from now. I haven't noticed anything this time, but in the past I have noticed the screen flash.

I wonder if the keyboard is crashing. Whenever the text vanishes, do you happen to hear anything like the keyboard dismissing and quickly reappearing? Or anything else unusual?
Also, do you happen to remember the approximate time of day when that happened? I might be able to correlate that with the crash reports, if I get any.

Re: Two issues while manually typing
Thank you for the feedback.
There are currently numerous spacing issues, most prominently when doing manual typing as well as when entering emoji. These will be addressed soon.
Same goes for getting the wrong character when you lift up your finger to manually type something.
Thank you for reporting, please keep it coming, smile!

Hi Kosta and Ashley and everyone else on the list,
Two issues that I would like to mention related to manual typing. I am not sure if these have been discussed in any thread before, but I haven't come across such a conversation if they have indeed been brought up. I am going to detail them as best as I can:
1. During manual typing, there is an extra space inserted after the last letter you type, if you make a mistake and swipe left to delete a letter and then continue manually typing the rest of the word. Ok, I know that sounds confusing, so here's an example. Lets say I am trying to type the word"orange". I will start with the first letter o, then type r, then I want to type a, but lets say I end up tapping s by mistake. So I swipe left to delete the s, and then continue typing the rest of the word. That is, ange. Now, when I swipe right, I will hear Voiceover say, ange which gives me the impression that the word was split up at the point I swiped left to make a correction. This is confirmed when on checking the text, it shows that the "or" and the "ange" have been seperated with a space between them.
2. I also notice often while manually typing that the incorrect letter gets typed when lifting the finger. Meaning, if I'm typing a word, many times when I lift my finger to type a letter, a double keyboard click sound is heard and the letter next to the letter I was attempting to type gets entered instead. Which is why I find myself swiping left to make corrections very regularly. But doing so causes the problem I mentioned in number one. So more often than not I pretty much have to delete the partial word and start typing it from scratch.
Thanks,
Salman

Whenever you go back to edit existing text, FlickType doesn’t know the entire text because iOS only supplies us with about a sentence or so from where the cursor happens to be. So if you go back to the iOS keyboard and then switch back to FlickType, you will likely only have one or two sentences available to edit and read back, even though the entire text should be in the text field. This may also happen if you remain on FlickType but switch apps.
Hope that makes sense.

Good point. I would generally want a space between the last word and the emoji. However, if typing multiple emoji, I would not necessarily want a space between each of them. So perhaps the manual space option is better than the automatic one. I do not want a space bar though.

If you do have trouble performing that gesture, you can enable this button from the settings. - The shift state now resets after entering a single character, so it behaves more like a shift key rather than a caps lock. - The shift state now affects words that were not manually typed, meaning that if you switch to uppercase in the middle of a sentence and type a word like "banana", it will be capitalized. - Words will be capitalized after a new line. - On devices that support 3D Touch, pressing down harder while exploring the keyboard will toggle the secondary layout, meaning the state of shift if you are in letters, or switch between numbers and symbols if you are in either numbers or symbols.

Re: "FlickType Keyboard 1.1 (73)" for iOS is now available to test
Hello, I have also found that a space gets inserted after I delete a manually typed character and then finish typing the word. When doing a two finger flick to read over the word, the extra space is not announced. With the Last two FlickType builds, moving by character in manually typed words is possible. Upon switching keyboards and reading over the text I wrote, I am able to find the spaces separating parts of words. Typing things over again is sometimes time-consuming. Hopefully, this issue will be addressed soon. Chanelle

Good point. I would generally want a space between the last word and the emoji. However, if typing multiple emoji, I would not necessarily want a space between each of them. So perhaps the manual space option is better than the automatic one. I do not want a space bar though.

I think the space should be manually inserted, too. Many times I don't want a space between my Emojis. Like this, 😊😄😃☺️😀😎
I like the idea of having a space included in the punctuation and emoji list. Good thinking.🤔 Chuck

Ed,
When typing in FlickType mode, I was trying to space after a word and then enter an emoji, but I could not figure out a way to put a space between the last word and the emoji🤔. See the example that I just typed. Thanks.

Hey Benny,
A flick right enters a space after a word is typed. In manual entry mode you cab enter as many spaces as you would like, but again I think this is only after typing a word as well. I thought there was mention of the spacebar in manual typing mode, but I can't seem to get that to show up. Maybe it has been removed to unify the gestures accross input modes.

Actually I don't want a new line, but just a space. Thanks.

Hey,
Yes there is. The enter or return key at the bottom right corner of the keyboard will insert a new line.
I hope this helps.

Hey,
The other option is to have the keyboard place a space before the emoji.
This might be much simpler for the end user.

Since we don't have a space bar, maybe Kosta could put a space option on the list of punctuation, where the emojis are at the top of the list. The space could be below punctuation options. Thanks.

Hi Ed, Benny is correct, you are unable to insert a space between the last word that you wrote and an emoji. Regards, Paul.

Hey Benny,
The secret to entering an emoji is to flick right to space, then a second space for punctuation. Instead it of flicking down to change the punctuation, you will now flick up and there will be about 5 or 6 emoji characters.
I hope this helps,
Ed
